Anderson County deputies said that a girl who was shot and killed during a home invasion Sunday night was participating in the crime when she was shot.
The shooting happened at 11:05 p.m. at 506 Burris St.
When deputies arrived at the home, they said they found the victim sitting near a gun and a woman lying on the ground with a bullet wound to the stomach.
The man told deputies that the three people forced him and his girlfriend onto the floor. He said that he was hit in the head with a gun after the group forced their way inside.
Deputies said that the man was held at gunpoint by the girl, while two men ransacked the home. They said that the man tackled the girl, and she was shot in the stomach during a struggle for the gun.

The video at this story is the bigger issue. The mother of this unfortunate dead young girl seems to be wanting a Trayvon Martin - media response for the criminal actions of her daughter.

Meanwhile Puckett's mother, Latitiah Jones, is heartbroken and looking for answers as to how her daughter, who she describes as a shy and smart student, could have been involved in a home invasion turned fatality. "How could you do a 17-year-old child like that? How could you stuff my baby with that many bullets? How could you do that and lay down at night," asks Jones.
It sounds like the mom is describing someone else's kid. How could you raise her and not know her? How did the girl's father describe her?

It is easy to go astray, and some die before they find their way on track, before they sort out the mess they’re born into.
Seventeen...
God’s mercy be on them. Prayers for her soul and her mother’s too.

The perp's mother has gone out on a limb and it will likely be cut off behind her, as the police know the identities of the two male perps.
NP prediction here: they are "black" and have records of violence, drugs, no jobs and attitudes like mom's.
We'll see if we get media commentary on why mom let daughter truck with the male perps.

I don't post very often but after seeing this story on my local news I was absolutely gobsmacked by this dead girl's mom's reaction.
It seemed like a call to action/press conference rather than a grieving mom.

Teenagers do stupid things. Some very stupid.
Drive too fast, drink too much, use drugs, break into a house.
Some stupid things are fatal.
I'm not going to call it a mistake, she must have known she was doing wrong.
I can understand her parents are hurting. They would have hurt just as much if she had wrapped her car around a tree.
But then they would have nobody to blame.

It is easy to go astray, and some die before they find their way on trackLife is a series of decisions. Everyone makes some good ones and some bad ones with some sort of consequence for every one. Most decisions have minor consequences (comments like "Your mother dressed you funny this morning" when you choose to wear that purple paisley tie) and many times the bad ones only hurt your finances or quality of life.
However, chosing to be part of a home invasion crew has got to be one of the dumbest choices you can make. I have no sympathy for the girl. 17 is old enough to know the difference between right and wrong, good and evil. She knowingly chose wrong and evil and was willing to inflict harm on someone else. She suffered the consequence of her decision. Her mother is likewise a fool for trying to blame someone else for her daughters fate. If she insists on blaming someone else, let her try looking the the mirror first.

John 3_19-21 we must be in the same area. I saw that last night on the news and after hearing the momma I was like WTF?
I sure hope the victims aren't white or they are in some deep crap!
To: John 3_19-21
If you have never been informed that your child is dead, by whatever method, then you have no idea how you would react. The mother was in shock and that shock lasts for a while. She will grieve in what you consider a normal way eventually.

Somewhat better? I’ll take your word for it.
“The other two men and Pierces girlfriend fled the home after the shooting, the report says.
Puckett and Pierce were taken away in separate ambulances.”

I can understand how a mother would feel this way, in private.
But if she’s going to spew this nonsense publicly, my only reaction is “Shut your fat face and own up to the mistakes you made.”

If she hadn’t tried to rob somebody’s house, she wouldn’t be dead. Would Mom like it if three people invaded her house with guns, hit her on the head, made her get down on the floor, etc. Mom should raise her kids not to act stupid.

Easy. I'm between them and my family. I could kill without pity, mercy, or regret in their defence.

I can understand her parents are hurting. They would have hurt just as much if she had wrapped her car around a tree. But then they would have nobody to blame. Oh, sure they would. Blame the car manufacturer, blame the designer of the road, blame whoever didn't cut the tree down, blame whoever sold her alcohol, blame the phone manufacturer because it was possible for her to talk/text while driving ...
If you're a person who doesn't accept responsibility, then you're a person doesn't accept responsibility (for yourself or your child), no matter what the reality of the situation is.

I have some advice for black teenagers and their parents: if you don’t try these kinds of things, you won’t get shot. We will defend ourselves.
