Suspicious activity. Report it. It probably was no mistake. They are likely casing your house. Don't let the fact they are black intimidate you into feeling "racist" for reporting it. People do not normally show up at your door at 7:15AM unless they know you personally, know where you live, and have a darn good reason for showing up at such an hour.

Next time, bring your 1911 along in case they decide to force their way in.

You should disinfect your doorbell and doorstep.

What he did wasn’t illegal, but certainly suspicious. You probably should have gotten a good description or picture and reported it. Though nothing would happen until there was a robbery in the area.

And yes I had that happen to me once. I was living in an apartment on music row in Nashville and two blacks knocked on the door. Wanted to know where the rental office was. I answered the door in a suit and tie, and they robbed me later that afternoon.

Of course I was a college student. They stole a TV that didn’t work, a stereo that didn’t work, a $40 electronic keyboard, and my high school senior ring. They moved the $1200 selectric typewriter off of the broken stereo and left the typewriter.

20 years ago my area was having lots of break ins. I was between jobs and low on cash. Everyone else was getting security monitoring companies. I put a NRA sticker in plain view on my front window next to my front door. I am always armed if I ever open a door to a stranger and that is very rare. I never got robbed by the way.

“the outer security gate”

Between that and the skinny black guy with the dreadlocks scratching himself on your front stoop the word “re-locate” comes to mind.

I had the invert two weeks ago -- similar time-of-day, but a nice looking Amish kid in chinos with a goofy smile and a clipboard.

Shut the door in his face without saying a word.

Reminds me of the knock at the door I got at 10:30PM.
Seems a young latino man needing to come in “because some gang members were chasing him”. I offered to call the police, but he countered that I should let him in first, then, “we can call the police together”.

This back and forth went on for several minutes, until I told him the police were on their way. He of course high tailed off.

His pursuing gang members never appeared, but the police did some 30 minutes later. This despite us living less than a mile from the local station. Like they say, when seconds count.....

It's not illegal, obviously. It may be innocent.

That you posted tells me your gut says it was suspicious. It's your home with your wife, I don't know your neighborhood but trust your gut.

Down thread comments have said it may well have been an incident of casing as happened with that TN freeper in college.

You could call the non-emergency number and report the true facts in case they've stopped at other homes as well and the cops may have reports of that and can adjust neighborhood patrols accordingly.

Don't embellish, just lay out the true facts.

I can't believe some have suggested shooting first and asking questions later. What kind of hell holes do they live in with their families? Good grief.

My mother used to tell of a time in her life, when doors could be left unlocked and strangers could stay overnight if they needed a place to sleep. She was speaking of a major metropolitan area too, before it was overrung by decades of failed Democrat policies.

What we have gained in technology we've conceded in humanity.

Report it and tell your neighbors. It's suspicious. That's enough for a report.

Next time, answer through the door, gun in hand.

I have spoken.

What constitutes suspicious activity?

Anything, coming out of Washington D.C. ......

Opinion:

Hi LibWhacker.

Call the police and ask for extra patrol for “suspicious circumstances — possible casing the area.”

Describe the subjects like you described here.

Take a few minutes to evaluate your home security/security systems.

Don’t open the door for anyone that you don’t know or weren’t expecting.

Yes, they were casing you. This is common tactic to see who is home, how alert they are, etc. No answer means kick the rear door in. A dead giveaway is when they are trying to look everywhere but at you and they are starting with that “uh, uh, uh,” crap. That’s just he pause before the lie.

Don’t be afraid to call the police; you might have just had a contact with the neighborhood burglars crew. If they weren’t, these chuckleheads will know that the neighborhood watch is alive and well and it would be behoove them to not fall into a case of Sudden Involuntary Reparations Syndrome.
