Met him once, along with Tim Conway, when we did a Universal tour for Indian Guides way back when. RIP, LtCom. McHale.

RIP Ernest.

FIle under: Didn't know he was still alive.
I remember seeing him in the Poseidon Adventure back in 1972 and he seemed like an old man even then (he was 55 at the time of the movie).
He lived to be 95...not a bad performance at all. I hope I can keep my own body performing that long.
Seemed like a decent guy - not a Hollywood creep.
To: 2ndDivisionVet
Aww... Damn.
Thanks for the memories Ernest.
RIP

He was just on the o’reilly factor last week.... I’ll never forget when he was on fox and friends and did masturbation jokes. He was awesome a true icon rest in peace.

Wow, I just saw him interviewed on an O’Reilly program last week. He still seemed really sharp.
To: 2ndDivisionVet
He was a great actor. I loved him in his role of Vince Lombardi, amongst others.
He served a total of 14 years in the US Navy, including all of WWII, and he got out as a Gunners Mate, 1st Class.

His autobiography was subtitled, “I don’t want to set the world on fire; I just want to keep my nuts warm.” He took it from a sign on a New York chestnut dealer’s stand.
