State Patrol: Front Seat Gas Tank Fueled 'Unsafe' Car
It runs on alternative fuel source and the driver can see the road in ways most cars don't offer. But you won't be seeing this classic Ford Pinto back on a Minnesota road any time soon.
A Minnesota State Trooper stopped the car Sunday on U.S. Highway 52 in Koochiching County.
A State Patrol spokesperson posted photographs of what the Trooper found on the agency's Facebook page.
"Much of the vehicle was rusted out," said the spokesperson. Photos show a clear view through what remains of the floor to the road below.
But that wasn't all.
A tire was wedged behind the driver's seat, a placement the spokesperson said was holding the seat in place.
The Trooper spotted a gas can on the front seat. A hose ran from the gas can, out the passenger window, around the front and under the hood, "rigged up to the engine," according to the spokesperson.
"The car was impounded and the driver was cited for a number of violations," said the spokesperson.
Those violations included unsafe equipment and not having a Minnesota license.

Was the driver a Meskin’ heading south? Now I won’t get to see it on I-35 going to Meh-hee-ko....
I am simply amazed a Pinto is still on the road...or was...
About 3 weeks ago, I saw a Pinto stationwagen in pristine condition driving down the highway in Virginia. I did a double take and wondered a) is it the only one left running and 2) why would someone spend a small fortune to preserve a car with such a bad reputation. But someone in Virginia has got a very nice Pinto still running.
Could this person’s Last Will & Testament reflect the fact that he wants to be cremated??
Fewer people than died in Ted Kennedy's car.
My friend had a Ford Escort with a broken seat back. He didn’t even bother with the tire to hold it up, he drove it like he was sitting on a crate.
FWIW there are 6 Pintos on eBay motors, all look quite solid.
Wonderful things you can do with a carburetor. The marine gas tank doesn’t seem to be complaining about it. Has a nice shock absorbing base.
No, of course not, but they are filled with Toyota's, Honda, Hyundai, Nissans...
These manufactures who got a foothold in the huge American car market back in the 70's because Detroit produced absolute garbage...
The last American car I ever owned was an piece of garbage that leaked in ever conceivable place it could leak before it hit 100,000 miles.
I have a Camry in my driveaway with 250,000 plus miles on it...
“One less than died in Ted Kennedy's Oldsmobile”. It's really good to use when discussing how many people died at Three Mile Island.
I always give the Libtards two guesses before dropping the Bomb on them. The more it pisses them off, the more I enjoy the experience. Me bad, very, very bad.
Just imagine how much he could have gotten for it in the CLUNKERS FOR CASH program.

Sadly the Baraqqi Depression has done that to a lot of people

I went to the link (photos) and found he has a real nice 'custom' electric fuel pump.... mounted conveniently on the door.

Sorry folks.
Can’t be having energy saving vehicles on the road unless the manufacturer has borrowed $500 million from the American taxpayer...and lost every cent of it.
Besides...this gadget appeared to actually work.
This is what happens when your minds is on drugs!

Just about like the one in my Sears runabout. Nice work, accessible and easy to maintain. State Patrol mechanics should be taking lessons from this guy.
>> Anybody wonder why the Japanese have kicked Detroit’s ass in producing cars...since the 70’s
I agree the Pinto was a POS, but give me a call whenever the Japanese make an equivalent to my F-350 DRW...

Hell-OO!!! This car is *not* powered by “alternative fuel”... it “runs on alternative fuel source”.
As in *conventional gasoline*, delivered from a plastic tank in the passenger compartment!
I appreciate your sentiment but it doesn’t align with the real story.
I saw one just as bad as that day before yesterday...on the freeway too. Scary.
