In July of 1970 (17 yrs old) I flew from Seattle to Anchorage for a job and carried my cased Winchester Model 70 onto the jet plane and stored it in the stew's broom closet after they checked to make sure it was unloaded. No metal detectors, no pat down - times have changed.
