Romney makes midcourse communications correction (Re-hires anti-Palin smear peddler Kevin Madden)
CBS News ^ | 7/7/12 | Norah O'Donnell

In a sign that Mitt Romney's campaign team plans to adjust following growing criticism from fellow Republicans, CBS News has learned that Romney campaign senior adviser Kevin Madden will soon be taking on a larger and more visible role within the campaign.

Sources tell CBS News that Madden will be spending more time on the road with Romney and is likely to become a more public presence as a TV spokesperson for the candidate. He will hit the road with Romney next week, following Romney's New Hampshire vacation.

This move to make Madden a more public face of the campaign comes a week after fellow senior adviser Eric Fehrnstrom committed a messaging misstep, which resulted in Romney having to walk back those comments.

Memo to Mitt: It’s a presidential campaign, not a clown car.

This has the Bush fingerprints all over the ineptness of the Romney campaign.

I’ve been of the opinion for a long time that the Ken Mehlman gay mafia ex-Bush/RNC staffers running the Romney campaign are just doing all this damage to Romney to ensure there will clean-slate for Jeb Bush in 2016.

The gay staffers running the Romney campaign have so much contempt for conservatives and conservatism that they are unable to conceal it and they end up getting in trouble when their true feelings are spoken.

These anti-Romney guys on here claim Romney helped elect Obama the first time, but our own FReepers who bash Romney will certainly be able to claim credit for 4 more years of The One AMEN!

At last, I am not a voice crying in the wilderness here as someone else has.....

People are free to discuss what they want, of course. But, at this point, considering that our ONLY choice is Romney...What purpose does this stuff serve?

That is 100 percent untrue. We have NOT had the convention yet where if Republicans had any principles at all, they would drop him for a true conservative. The problem is you and your ilk who have been cheerleading this disaster. We should be fighting against Romney and ensuring that we get who we want at the convention instead of settling for someone substandard.

Exactly. Funny how all of the Romneybots and RINO-sycophants are pretending that the convention is already over.

Drop Romney at the convention.....that is why it is extremely important for these patriots to show how awful Romney is for our country. I am so surprised in your displeasure with these great folks. Not your normal thinking. We have a convention to win and kick Romney to the curb. Can we ONCE get a conservative as President? Yes we can if everyone would be truthful at the convention.

Some of these ankle biters on here find Romney so good looking that it is blocking the truth. They are like the folks who voted for JFK who they considered good looking. We are seeing the same thing with the Republicans. The weird thing is the Republican guys on this thread who find Romney dreamy.....that is a bit scary.

If even one negative PEEP about Sarah Palin comes out of the Romney camp, or if they ignore her completely, then we have our traitor.

Sarah could be quite valuable in rallying the troops for November, so she should be used as an asset, not a target.

The Romney team is actively campaigning to DENY ANY CONVENTION SPEAKING ROLE for Sarah Palin.

I expect that Kevin Madden will be the lead Romney point person to try to justify banning Sarah Palin from the convention. And he will fail.

Team Romney is working to ban Sarah Palin from a speaking role at the convention. They really are incompetent fools.

"Considering the GOP-E's war on Conservatives and Sarah Palin, for a long time to come.

Bump! I was considering holding my nose for Mitt, this changes my mind, now I am leaning 3rd party at the top. Sadly John Roberts took the wind out of the vote Mitt for SC appointments. That argument was destroyed by Roberts.

It's NOT going to happen. Romney will NOT be dropped in the convention and every effort to do so only undermines his ultimate candidacy and gives advantage to Obama.

It's time to "man-up" and face the fact that Romney is the nominee. He has received the votes he needs to be the Republican nominee. Conservatives failed both to present a genuinely compelling competent candidate and to present a compelling argument to voters and they chose Romney. I hardly think it is the place of convention delegates to insert their own preferences over those of the people who elected them without a genuinely compelling reason--such as some unforeseen disaster--not simply, out of pique at his not being "conservative enough." The Republican voters spoke. That's an end to it.

It is also time to "man-up" about our own culpability in Romney's victory. Rather than focusing on one good conservative, we (at least some of us) spent far too much time vilifying all the other conservative candidates except our personal favorite.

Look at the instant broad-based attacks on this forum against Perry--abject hatred from day one. The same happened to Cain, Gingrich, Romney, Bachmann, everyone. When you pre-select one candidate and become so emotionally attached to him, then your natural instinct is to attack everyone who is running against him. That is why I never endorsed one single candidate during the primaries (though certainly I had favorites at different times) and made an effort to defend them against what I perceived as "unfair" or dishonest attacks (though certainly I am as guilty as the rest of us in some cases).

Conservatives set up a circular firing squad and as a result gave Romney the field by default.

Time to move past it and get behind Romney--the consequences are far too dire should Obama be reelected. Romney's far from perfect, but he is at least that far better than the alternative.

Team Romney’s plot to ban Sarah Palin from a speaking role at the convention is petty, pathetic and cowardly. What are they afraid of?

Team Romney doesn't see it that way, and never have.

And I don't think that the governor will ever allow herself to be used again after what happened in 2008.

“What are they afraid of?”

They’re afraid of Palin overshadowing Mitt.

As time goes on it’s becoming more obvious to me that Mitt will lose to Obama. Obama is pouring on the charm, plus has 90% of the media and entertainment culture on his side. Obama is becoming softer, gentler Obama. He’s tried so hard to be bi-partisan but the mean republicans just won’t reach across the aisle. He’s buying cookies and speaking gently. Mitt can’t overcome his personality deficit and the media will go after his Mormon religion and his elitism.

A lot of people in this country love Obama - especially older women. It’s shocking to me. Freedom is not valuable to most Americans and that’s a sad fact. They want to be taken care of and believe they are too stupid to make decisions for themselves.

I am not hopeful for November. I can’t imagine any scenario where the average voter casts Mitt Romney as the strong leading man.

Yeah, I think Palin knew that they would try some of this monkey business and that's why SarahPAC rented booth space so that they could NOT lock her out altogether. Remember at CPAC two years ago when Romney or Pawlenty was speaking, and a Palin impersonator walked in? The press abandoned him and flocked over to who they thought was Palin.

Sarah Palin Impersonator Stuns Crowd at CPAC (Video)

The same thing is going to happen at the convention...count on it, only it will be the real Palin this time.

Well I bet the entire WH War Room is totally puzzled as to why FR turned away from the GOP nominee.

Hopefully they (WH) will devote all their resources to this perceived anomaly and forget to campaign.

To me it is tantamount to Ross Perot going after the Booshes only to deliver us Bill Clinton (the booby prize).
Or Ralph Nader jumping in against Bush only to stop Kerry, Gore or both.

Recall last time (2008) McCain and Huckster teamed up to stop Mitt, only to leave us with the weak McCain, who was then undermined by Romney so he’d had a shot in 2012.

The whole thing is sickening. Backstabbing galore.

Meanwhile O, Ried, Pelosi and the rest of the Commies keep their noses to the grind stone, their eyes on the ball, and continue to eat the guts out of the American Dream.
