In the Fall of 1966, the third Spencer Davis Group album, Autumn '66, was released. It would be Steve's last complete album of new material with the band although he was included on the band's next album singing the title song of the movie soundtrack "Here We Go Around The Mullberry Bush" and "Best of", "rarities", live performances and anthologies and would continue to come out for decades. "Somebody Help Me" and "When I Come Home" were the most successful singles released from the album, however, they were completly overshadowed by two other singles that weren't on the album, but, turned out to be The Spencer Davis Group's biggest and most enduring hit records and those songs alone would propell sales of "Greatest Hits" collections for decades to come.

The first was written by Steve and his brother Muff, sharing credit with Spencer Davis. The basic riff of the song was borrowed from the Homer Banks song "(Ain't That) A Lot of Love", written by Banks and Willie Dean "Deanie" Parker. "Gimme Some Lovin'" hit #2 on the UK singles chart in the Autumn of 1966 and #7 in the US. The song has since been ranked #247 on the Rolling Stone magazine's list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time and is one of, if not the signature song assosciated with Steve Winwood.

I just had the great pleasure of seeing Steve Winwood in concert here in Atlanta a few weeks back. It was definitely a bucket-list event for me. He closed the show with "Dear Mr. Fantasy" and "Gimme Some Lovin'". It was awesome.

Here's another classic for you: Medicated Goo - Traffic

Steve is an absolute must-see for true music lovers. I’m so glad you had a chance to see him and testify! He’s one of rock music’s founding fathers and his influence has been too vast to cover in a single jukebox, but I’m going to try hard to hit the high points and the “Finer Things”. Thanks for the comments and especially that video. It prooves he can write a kickin’ jam about anything, even pimple cream, and he can sling a guitar with the best of ‘em.
