I love his dry, strange sense of humor whenever he was on Red Eye.

What’s the background to this? The story at the link doesn’t say much.

“Whats the background to this?”
Thus, acutely aware one cannot rebuild their hearth of home amongst the ruins of their U.S. House office, for the sake of my loved ones I must strike another match, go start anew by embracing the promotion back from public servant to sovereign citizen,

Dear God. I’m stunned and equally saddened..
He and his family have my prayers.
He and his staff have always been extra special nice.

They were meant to come, serve and go.
That's why they weren't paid and was the way it was designed. Everybody in Congress should serve one term and then leave.
Although I like the guy, 26 years is 24 too many.

Here’s a good Washington Rule of Thumb for you: Any time a politician says he is leaving office “for the sake of my family,” he is likely what he has done to his family that’s the real reason for his jumping ship.
To: Lurking Libertarian
He didn’t make the ballot due to the fact that the majority of the signatures collected were invalid. Personally I have trouble believing that an experienced congressman like himself could make such a mistake.
There’s an investigation ongoing about what happened.

“The show, described by the News as starring “McCotter hosting a crude variety show cast with characters bearing the nicknames of his congressional staffers, his brother and a drunk, perverted ‘Black Santa,’” riffs on drinking, sex, race, flatulence, puking and women’s anatomy, the report said.”
It all comes down to being the fault of a drunk, perverted Black Santa.

Agreed, I like my congressman but I think they need to be limited.

You have no idea what you are talking about, noobie. He didn’t do anything to his family. The Rats sabotaged his signature petition for re-election and it wasn’t caught until it was too late.

Whats the background to this? It would appear that he committed the unforgivable sin of writing a racy comedy script:
McCotter, a Livonia Republican representing Michigan's 11th Congressional District, penned a 42-minute script for "Bumper Sticker: Made On Motown," a racy television comedy pilot, the News reported after a script was leaked to the newspaper by a disgruntled former McCotter staffer.

I’m sorry he’s leaving. I always thought he was one of the good Reps.
To: SMGFan
This is losing a good guy. Hopefully his replacement will maintain most of McCotters’ conservative values.

He wasn’t a Congressman for 26 years. He served 5 terms — that is 10 years.

Im sorry hes leaving. I always thought he was one of the good Reps.
He's been more than a little union friendly but I agree that he was a pretty decent rep. I suspect we haven't heard the last of him. He's a well spoken guy and will probably be turning up on the news shows for years to come.

Sloppy writers.
"Prior to being elected five times to serve the citizens of Oakland and Wayne Counties in the United States House of Representatives, Rep. McCotter also represented the people in the Michigan State Senate and the Wayne County Commission. While on the Commission, he helped change the county charter to require that no new taxes can be enacted without the approval of two-thirds of the Commissioners and 60% of the voters."
