FOX 2's Charlie LeDuff takes on an epic challenge of golfing his way from 8 Mile Road to Belle Isle... literally. It's a par 3,168, 18-mile, single hole course.
The 46-year-old Pulitzer Prize winning writer carries only four clubs in his bag while facing extraordinary hazards that took years to form. He strokes his way through grassy fields, abandoned houses and crumbling landmarks. The half-way houses on this course are real.

Saw that earlier in the day, glad you posted it.
Funny / sad / pathetic
Great Society was a huge success.
Half-way houses? Half-way to where?
There is so much empty and abandoned space in Detroit that the entire city of Paris can fit inside.
Look at this satellite photo.
“It’s really sad what has happened to this once great city.”
It’s also sad that most Americans do not see the role of unchecked Democratic leadership and heavy unionization across many areas played in the city’s current state.
Democratic rule?
Windsor, ON has had a socialist government for 50 years. Portland, OR has been run by Dems forever, likewise Seattle.
Are you sure that the problem is Democrats?
That’s madness. Funny and tragic at the same time. Kudos.
You might have a point. You might even be about to say where you’re headed with that comment. In fact you might say something to the effect that, for example, Sweden has been ruled by socialists for many years and yet it doesn’t look anything at all like Detroit.
Good question.
Toss in one major industry run by the unions and you got yourself Detroit.
Toss in one major industry run by the unions and you got yourself Detroit.
The problem is that as the industrial midwest lost some business, the proper course of action would have been to downsize government and government expenditures as the tax base weakened. Instead, because those Democrats were beholden to public employee unions and the poor, they treated their city payrolls like jobs programs, and the tax base as something to be milked rather than rebuilt. Over time, that chased out much of what remained of the tax base. It's "sooner or later you run out of other people's money" writ small.
Republican mayors would have been more willing to cut city employment and services, cut taxes, and encouraged business to stay.
Other issue was schools. Democrats politically invested in busing, integration, and using the schools for social change led to white flight, which also helped damage those cities.
Republicans are just as capable of poor management as Democrats, but at least they don't have the bias of elevated the welfare of public employee unions above and the poor above everyone else.
What amazes me is how there are libraries full of books, police stations full of files and mugshots, medical offices full of supplies and equipment all of it abandoned like you are looking at a scene in the Omega Man or some Zombie Appocalypse.
The state would like to take control of Belle Isle and the locals are throwing a tantrum about it. I’m not sure I want the state to take control but the city simply can’t afford upkeep.
Its called “Detroitification” ...the physical manifestation of the ultimate in Leftard thinking and behavior.
Toss in a City Council like this and you got yourself a Detroit!

I plead guilty to being ignorant as to who this McDuff fellow is. Am I missing out on something good?
