Catholic Fund Cuts Off Aid Over Groups’ Affiliations

For three years now, Compañeros, a small nonprofit organization in rural southwestern Colorado, has received thousands of dollars from the Roman Catholic Church to help poor Hispanic immigrants with basic needs including access to health care and guidance on local laws.

But in February, the group was informed by a representative from the Diocese of Pueblo that its financing from the Catholic Campaign for Human Development, an arm of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops devoted to ending poverty, was in danger.

The problem, the diocesan liaison explained, was Compañeros’s membership in an immigrant rights coalition that had joined forces with a statewide gay and lesbian advocacy group, recounted Nicole Mosher, Compañeros’s executive director.

The Catholic Campaign, which doles out $8 million annually to about 250 groups nationwide, has been under increasing pressure from conservative Catholic groups to ensure that it is not unwittingly aiding organizations that run afoul of church positions on issues like birth control and marriage. While the amount lost is often relatively small, it can account for a significant chunk of a group’s budget. And it is not happening in a vacuum, coming at a time when other nonprofit organizations, like Planned Parenthood, also find themselves under fire from social conservatives trying to choke off their financing.

CCHD praised for defunding group linked to gay advocacy

Compañeros has been busy.  I bet the usually politically-liberal bishops of the USA would love to continue funding them with CCHD funding provided by the weekly church-going Catholics who put in their CCHD envelope every year without knowing for what it funds.

Unfortunately, many of the Orthodox Bishops still participate in the CCHD, listed below is a list of bishops that opt out.  I don't know how accurate the list is.

Bishop Joseph Adamec - Altoona-Johnstown, Pennsylvania
Bishop Robert J. Baker - Birmingham, Alabama
Bishop John O. Barres - Allentown, Pennsylvania
Bishop Lawrence Brandt - Greensburg, Pennsylvania
Bishop Fabian Bruskewitz - Lincoln, Nebraska
Bishop Victor Galeone - St. Augustine, Florida
Bishop Robert C. Morlino - Madison, Wisconsin
Bishop Kevin Rhoades (formerly) - Harrisburg, Pennsylvania
Bishop David Ricken – Green Bay, Wisconsin
Bishop Edward J. Slattery - Tulsa, Oklahoma

I don't see Archbishop Chaput's name or Bishop Aquila's and I do recall that Archbishop Burke's archdioces also participated when he was their archbishop; I don't see Archbishop Carlson's name listed above.   Hopefully, with added pressure they will stop this ridiculous campaign.   The money collected does not go to any church-affiliated organizations, it goes to community organizations like the one for which 0bama worked which is called Developing Communities Project, Inc.

Catholic priest admits at Religious Freedom Rally that he was wrong for voting for 0bama.

Slowly but surely the CINO “social justice” types are being defunded, delisted, and investigated. Its slow as a glacier, but at least its moving in the right direction.

REPORT: The problem, the diocesan liaison explained, was Compañeros’s membership in an immigrant rights coalition that had joined forces with a statewide gay and lesbian advocacy group, recounted Nicole Mosher, Compañeros’s executive director."

RESPONSE: An example of the formation of the coalition against the Western Christian. These people are not worried about religion; but about the conquest of the West. The coalition is formed of Hispanics, blacks, gays , Asians, and non-Christians. In some cases they have entered into written alliances.

Immigrants = Illegals. More "open border" BS from the Catholic Church.

More ignorant BS from those who don't know the actual teaching of the Church.

I'll bet you think wrestling is real too.

Questions the NYT failed to ask. What do LBBT issues have to do with helping the homeless? Why do these organizations allow themselves to be used for political gains?

I'm a convert to Catholicism and that doesn't sound too outlandish to me.

The church has a great deal to answer for and knee jerk responses indicate more denial.

those who don't know the actual teaching of the Church.

Church teaching does not endorse violating a nation's immigration laws, and then plundering and exploiting the nation one has entered illegally (by appropriating free housing, welfare, food stamps, social services, and unearned tax refunds, while straining its health, education and penal systems to the brink).

This behavior is analogous to someone breaking into a private home and availing themselves of the resident's property - a.k.a. STEALING.

American Bishops who encourage the illegal southern invasion at the expense of legal US residents are advocating for redistribution. They are promoting socialism, which is also in opposition to Church teaching.

"At the same time, States have the right to regulate migration flows and to defend their own frontiers, always guaranteeing the respect due to the dignity of each and every human person. Immigrants, moreover, have the duty to integrate into the host Country, respecting its laws and its national identity."

Why is this even a story? Why should the Catholic Church subsidize people who advocate unnatural and intrinsically disordered sexual relationships? Does the Church—and everyone else in our society— have to bend its knee before the depraved cultural values of the sitcoms and the NYTIMES?

that’s a great question, i have often wondered that myself too, many of these groups are also aligned with pro-abortion groups including planned parenthood. The bottom line is that they are members of the democrat party and are progressives, socialists, marxists and atheists and up to no good. The acorn voter-fraud scandal was a wake up call because what most of these groups want you to do is vote democrat.

They object to “ecclesial (ecclesiastical) agendas?”

Isn’t that what the Vatican does, instead of changing its doctrines to fit trendy new ideas?
