Sir Elton John will be honoured with a Medal of Gratitude from Poland for his contribution to bringing down the Communist regime, it has emerged...
He will be presented with the medal by former president and trade union leader Lech Walesa, whom he visited in 1984.
The singer is believed to have shared a morale-boosting bottle of champagne in Mr Walesas flat, with Sir Elton opening praising his union Solidarity during a show.
Magdalena Charkin-Jaszcza, of the European Solidarity Centre (ESC) in Gdansk, told a newspaper Sir Elton gave Polish people help in a difficult time....
Elton John came here and gave us the support we needed when we were living in a police state where people were getting beaten up and killed like in George Orwells 1984.
Sir Elton travelled to Poland for a concert in 1984, when Communist army chief General Jaruzelski was ruling. A protest movement was led by trade union Solidarity, which was founded in 1980.

Only because Commies don’t like faggots.
Great music aside, if ELTON JOHN is a SIR, then
NEWYORKCITYGOPMAN must be King of the World!
Being stuck between Germany and Russia was a real buzzkill in that regard.
I agree.
I know he’s friends w/Rush, but George Bush? He used to trash and mock George Bush (43?)a lot! Now maybe it was his Dad that E. John gave shows for? I do know that shortly before the end of GWB’s second term, he (Elton John)came to the WH for a medal of some sort. I’ve noticed since then, he’s been really quiet about GWB; he hasn’t said anything ugly about him as far as I know.
But that’s really amazing about him helping Poland bring down communism! Good for him!
The late great Sam Kinnison had Dame Elton John’s number:
