McConnell: We’ll Repeal Obamacare, One Way or Another
National Review Online ^ | July 3, 2012 | Robert Costa

Posted on 07/04/2012 6:50:29 AM PDT by Jedidah

" . . . Repeal of Obamacare will be the first item up in the Senate if I am majority leader. If we have a president who will sign the bill, we will do everything we can to get it off the books, and we’ll be looking for every angle that could be pursued. There has been a lot of talk about reconciliation. The Chief Justice said this is a tax, and we take him at his word, so that certainly makes this eligible for reconciliation. But that may not be the only avenue that we pursue. Our goal will be to get it off the books. In my view, it is the single worst piece of legislation that has been passed in modern times, and I’ve said that on numerous occasions. It’s still my view. And just because the Supreme Court has decided it is constitutional doesn’t mean it’s the right thing to do."

From the interview:

Earlier this week, according to WHAS-TV in Louisville, you predicted that it will be “a lot harder” to repeal President Obama’s health-care law. Why is that the case?

Well, I don’t know how they got that comment out of what I had to say. Let me give you my view, clearly and unambiguously. Repeal of Obamacare will be the first item up in the Senate if I am majority leader.

But it's too hard to repeal Obamacare.

Looks like Caspar caught hell for his previous defeatist remark about repeal. He is a weasel though, he will do everything he can to not repeal unless we pressure him more than the leftists. The hammer has to repeatedly come down on the squishies.

From the interview:

Costa:

On a final note, what’s your message to conservatives and tea-party activists who are suspicious of Republican leaders and their commitment to repeal?

McConnell:

Boy, I don’t know how they could be suspicious on this issue. Every single Republican in the House and Senate voted against Obamacare. I must have made 125 speeches about it on the floor. If there is any area where I don’t think conservatives of any stripe should be concerned, it would be this one. We’ve been clear and unambiguous about Obamacare from the beginning to the end — all of it. And I led the fight in the Senate, so I know what I’m talking about.

If it’s gonna be so hard for the Senator to do, so hard that all he can commit to is “it will be the first item up in the Senate if I am majority leader”, perhaps we the people should pursue another avenue.

Perhaps it would be easier to work locally and demand our Governors and State Legislators also work toward a Constitutional Amendment that would repeal the ObamneyCare.

Some of the Governors of our largest states have already committed to not implementing ObamneyCare.

My letter to Senator McConnell:

Senator,

As long as you maintain a leadership role in the U.S. Senate, I AM a constituent, regardless of where I live.

Therefore, I fervently hope that a staffer has not deleted this communication because I’m not a Kentucky resident.

That being said, I hope you will read the words of Winston Churchill:

. we shall not flag or fail. We shall go on to the end. ... we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air ... We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender.

Please take these words to heart, Senator McConnell. You are perceived, by Conservatives all across the United States, as feckless, and unwilling to FIGHT.

Please prove us wrong, Mr. Minority Leader.

Or we will work tirelessly to see to it that you are replaced as Majority Leader of the Senate.

Thank you

Peter Kessler

Repealed like Roe vs Wade was repealed? Tired of them grabbing their junk and spouting hot air about repealing obamacare. Ain’t gonna happen.

A couple of points. First, McConnell (who is hardly William Wallace) WAS in front of a bunch of old people when he said it would be hard to repeal Obamacare---I think (hope) to somewhat placate those elderly who thought their medical care would end. Not my approach---I'm confrontational, but it is somewhat understandable he would say one thing when he means something slightly different.

Second, no one knows the size of Romney's cajones or his toughness when it comes to legislation that he PERSONALLY approves of, but which he knows the large majority of Americans do not approve of. So, with that caveat, let me ask this question:

If every part of the existing health care bill that involves action begins with "the Secretary of HHS shall determine/shall decide" . . . then it would seem to me that simply eliminating that agency and insisting Congress create a new one with ENUMERATED POWERS that would exclude health care decisions would be one way to approach this. For example, it could be re-merged as HEW, thereby diminishing Education and HHS at the same time. (I know, damn near impossible for someone like a Ron Paul or Allen West who has genuine principles, but I'm just throwing out different ways to undo this thing.)

I would hope that all GOP legislators and candidates are getting a lot of e-mails. And phone calls. And visits.

That is how the system is supposed to work. We, the people, must let our elected representatives know how we feel.

As for Rush, surely you understand that he has to be “so mad” at something continually in order to stay in business, no matter who is in office? Can you honestly remember a time when he was pleased with how things are going? He raved and ranted during the Bush years and helped get Pelosi and Reid into power, which provided much angst and good ratings.

Time to open our eyes and quit being used — by both sides.

Congress can control the SCOTUS, if it has the will. The bolded part at the end is perhaps the least appreciated sentence in the entire Constitution.

U.S. Constitution, Article 3 Section 2:

The judicial Power shall extend to all Cases, in Law and Equity, arising under this Constitution, the Laws of the United States, and Treaties made, or which shall be made, under their Authority;--to all Cases affecting Ambassadors, other public Ministers and Consuls;--to all Cases of admiralty and maritime Jurisdiction;--to Controversies to which the United States shall be a Party;--to Controversies between two or more States;-- between a State and Citizens of another State,--between Citizens of different States,--between Citizens of the same State claiming Lands under Grants of different States, and between a State, or the Citizens thereof, and foreign States, Citizens or Subjects.

In all Cases affecting Ambassadors, other public Ministers and Consuls, and those in which a State shall be Party, the supreme Court shall have original Jurisdiction. In all the other Cases before mentioned, the supreme Court shall have appellate Jurisdiction, both as to Law and Fact, with such Exceptions, and under such Regulations as the Congress shall make.

"...with such Exceptions, and under such Regulations as the Congress shall make."

Enough Tea Party Patriots could lead a new Congress, and put the SCOTUS back into its box. The USA was never intended to become a tyranny of five judges. It's in the Constitution: The Congress is superior to the SCOTUS. There are NOT "three co-equal branches" as most believe.

If obamma keeps insisting that the mandate is not a tax but a penalty, Roberts just might reconvene the justices and change his vote. Wouldn’t that be a blast!

When we retake control of the Senate, we need a much more DYNAMIC leader than McConnell. Republicans need to stop rewarding longevity and start rewarding LEADERSHIP! Who should it be?

Congress cannot ‘repeal’ Roe v. Wade. It would be like trying to repeal the second amendment. It sucks, but that is the way it is.
