McConnell: We’ll Repeal Obamacare, One Way or Another
National Review Online ^ | July 3, 2012 | Robert Costa

Posted on 07/04/2012 6:50:29 AM PDT by Jedidah

" . . . Repeal of Obamacare will be the first item up in the Senate if I am majority leader. If we have a president who will sign the bill, we will do everything we can to get it off the books, and we’ll be looking for every angle that could be pursued. There has been a lot of talk about reconciliation. The Chief Justice said this is a tax, and we take him at his word, so that certainly makes this eligible for reconciliation. But that may not be the only avenue that we pursue. Our goal will be to get it off the books. In my view, it is the single worst piece of legislation that has been passed in modern times, and I’ve said that on numerous occasions. It’s still my view. And just because the Supreme Court has decided it is constitutional doesn’t mean it’s the right thing to do."

Seems to me all we have to do is get “our guy” in as Secretary of HHS, and that one person can undo almost the entire debacle. Am I wrong?

NULLIFICATION... it has worked 7 times in our History. It has worked every time that it has been tried. Search for Jefferson and the Alien and Sedition Act of 1798. It is the only way that is 100% certain to work.

DeMint... he is far from perfect but he is tough and he is well versed in the Senate procedures.

There have been hundreds of waivers to the provisions of Obamacare issued already by the HHS.

Romney has said that on day one he will issue a waiver to all 50 States from the whole thing.

There is nothing to stop him from doing this.

The words “perfect” and “Politician” don’t belong together in any sentence!

How about flawed men doing a so-so job at best????

I think the mainstream media is sowing discord among conservatives — their main passtime. Also, Rush blasted McConnell to kingdom come for his equivocation reported in the press. I’m sure others have piled on. This is why McConnell has to make it clear what he intends to do. Let’s hold his feet to the fire.

Repealed like Roe vs Wade was repealed? Tired of them grabbing their junk and spouting hot air about repealing obamacare. Ain’t gonna happen.

There is defeatist, and then there is stupid, ignorant, and defeatist.

Your post is stupid, ignorant, and defeatist.

Thus it is perfect for the new Free Republic.

> Second, no one knows the size of Romney’s cajones or his toughness when it comes to legislation that he PERSONALLY approves of, but which he knows the large majority of Americans do not approve of.

The size of Romney’s cajones? On this issue? How about a couple of grains of sand.

Absolutely. Seems in their rush to get this through they foolishly gave too much power to the Sec of HHS who answers to the Chief Exec. This makes the bill subject to the whim of the party in power and therefore constructed out of the thinnest of tissue paper. I think it will soon dawn on the left that the act is no longer a BFD. Hopefully in 4 short months...

It will be hard. That’s why we better get to work! 3 things must be done if we have any chance at all: Romney must defeat Obama, we must win control of the Senate, and we must maintain control of the House. Absent all three of those things happening, there is zero chance whatsoever of repealing the Obamacaretax monster. None.

I think the mainstream media is sowing discord among conservatives — their main passtime.

That has always been the case.

What is new is how enthusiastically leftist propaganda is repeated and praised here on "America's premier conservative web forum".

We used to criticize and counter such lies.

No more.

The law grants the secretary of the HHS incredible discretionary power, but it doesn’t grant them the ability to take away that power from a future HHS secretary. We have to repeal the law.

The first thing that Congress needs to do is to void all exemptions and waivers from the Obamacare bill, including and especially the waivers for public employee unions. All teachers and SEIU members (and politicians, too)need to be thrown into the same system that they advocate for the rest of us.

It would make repeal must simpler if there were no waivers to consider.

Either void all exemptions or give everyone exemptions. I like the latter, but either one is a step forward.

Nothing has touched them for 50 years. They haven't a clue, no skin in the game, therefore they FAIL. ALWAYS.

I place the odds of repeal at less than 1 in 3. Your opinion may differ.
If a tea party Secretary of HHS ...”our guy”...were to walk in this Jan 20 and dismantle the entire apparatus, and grant waivers to all 50 states, combined with half of the states or more choosing not to implement in one form or another, the worse a future Lefty SecHHS could do is resurrect the “bfd” in a handful of states. Not a bad fallback position if repeal falls short...
