MIAMI (AP) One of the nation's foremost Latino civil rights organizations has selected for the first time a Cuban-American to chair its board.
The National Council of La Raza was expected to announce Wednesday that Miami native and public relations guru Jorge Plasencia, 38, will lead its board. He is only the third non Mexican-American to serve in that role in more than four decades. Plasencia replaces Phoenix attorney Daniel R. Ortega.
The move signifies, in part, the heavily Mexican-American group's growing recognition of the important role Florida plays in Hispanic politics. It also signifies the group's recognition of the influence Florida and its Hispanic voters could have in this year's presidential election.
"Jorge Plasencia has clearly demonstrated himself as a talented and innovative entrepreneur, as well as a dedicated community leader," NCLR President and CEO Janet Murguia told The Associated Press on Tuesday. She also said he represents the nation's increasingly diverse Hispanic community.
Murguia said Plasencia will help the organization as it expands its voter registration and other civic engagement work in Florida, but that he is someone who knows how to build bridges at a national level. That has been a top priority for Murguia, who has sought to work with a broad array of Hispanic and other groups, including the NAACP and the National Urban League.
"As a Cuban-American and a Floridian, I think NCLR has been a true champion for all Latinos," Plasencia said.
"We're living in a historic moment in the U.S., Hispanic community," he added, referring to the growth in Hispanic buying power, cultural influence and the potential role of Hispanic voters in November.
"I look forward to working with our board, staff and affiliates to continue to improve opportunities for the over 50 million Latinos who call our country home...."

Racist organization, period.
The United States: we’ve got ignoramus racists of ALL colors.
KKK: Ignorant White Racists.
NBP: Ignorant Black Racists.
LR: Ignorant Latino Racists.
All of them: the KKK, NBP, LR, have historically found their home in the Democrat Party.
Time to boost as many votes as possible in Florida for Obama - a must win state .
The racists are trying to guarantee the Florida vote for their white boy ‘RAT massas down at the DNC. Not a bad move.
quick run of this persons name in wikipedia.
reading between the lines, he uses minority status (seriously hispanic as a minority in MIAMI?) to push his ad agency.
This is to sell racism.
quote:

República is a minority owned and certified company by the National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC). It currently ranks #31 in the Top 50 U.S. Hispanic Agencies by Ad Age.[1]

this is a bio
with the univision creds it seems he is pro-castro ....for now.
La Raza translates to: The Race. The bunch of Messican racists have a core thought: “For teh Race everything, for the rest, nothing.”
They refer to the “Bronze Race” which we know as Messicans and assorted, sordid varieties of Central Americans.
As time goes by, even Cuban-Americans will forget the reason they’re here. It’s started.
But only LA RAZA puts “race” in its name. And its not just “a” race but its “the” race.
The Ku Klux Klan was born in the short axis of Athens, Alabama - Pulaski, Tennessee which is a distance of about
28 miles. At the time the all-powerful Republican Party was the most racist in history. Its “Reconstruction” efforts had Black Troops committing attrocities, putting completely unqualified Blacks into both of Mississippi's U.S. Senate slots and it was not by accident that the majority of the South Carolina legislature was Black.
Some of those who had no vote and no voice turned to secret organizations which were ultimately uncontrollable but the original founding times were desperate and crime-ridden (shortly before the alliteration Ku Klux Klan was ever heard)
There are two kinds of “Cuban Americans”, the appeasers of Castro and the political refugees and their families who will never forget.
Why is THIS Cuban ascending in La Raza at this time?
To be used to try to blunt Rubio should Romney choose him as his running mate.
La Raza is NOT about “Hispamics”; it is about the Left among Hispanics, period.
Welcome to the new America—Hispanics against everybody else.
Very true, the Democrats are trying to blunt the Rubio effect.
Yep, very telling.
Black panthers? New black panthers? Nation of Islam?
Collectively, non-whites of whatever race have referred to themselves as “dark-skinned” people. This to signify that, as long as you’re not white, you can be one of them. Think of the possibilities!
Sounds like a Castro plant. Communism through racism will destroy this country and once that hatred sets in completely blood will flow.
Being Cuban was once synonymous with being conservative. Though it seems as more Cubanos drift further from those earlier generations who actually knew the horrors of Castro and communism they begin to become what their parents and grandparents hated, and in may case died because of.
The National Council of La Raza is not a Civil Rights Organisation. It is bent on returning American States to Mexico. It means “The Race”
It is a racist organisation, it is a treasonous organisation.
In the nineteenth century, disaffected whites turned to secret societies. Had that situation occurred today, the group they would turn to would probably be called something like the Popular Front for the Liberation of the Occupied South, with an ideology based on the writings of Marx, Che Guevara, et al.
