DNC Chair: It’s easiest for the IRS to administer the health care mandate, but it’s not a tax

Just remember, guys: The Internal Revenue Service might be the best-equipped entity to administer the "penalty," and the "penalty" might be assessed on your tax return, but the requirement to pay a "penalty" if you don't buy health insurance is most definitively not a tax.

CLICK ABOVE LINK FOR THE VIDEO

Speaking on CNN's "The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer," Wasserman Schultz said Monday, that the law should be enforced by the federal government’s taxing arm because “it’s simply a matter of ease in administration.”

“The way we usually think of taxation, Wolf, is that taxation as the IRS administers is collected on broad swaths and large categories of individuals,” Wasserman Schultz said. “This is a penalty that will be assessed on the tax return if you choose to roll the dice and make us all pay for your being irresponsible and increase all of our health care costs.

“We’re not going to tolerate that any more in America. You have to be responsible and you have to pay a penalty if you choose not to be,” she continued.

Okay, whatever, Democrats — call it what you want. It looks like a tax, it smells like a tax, but fine, it’s just the feds penalizing you for exercising your personal freedom to not buy health insurance. But the fact remains that this “penalty” is going to funnel more of Americans’ money out of the productive private economy and into the government, and it’s going to be a huge imposition to the middle class.

In related news, Florida Gov. Rick Scott has led the charge of Republican states — so far including Iowa, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, Texas and Wisconsin — in declining to start battening down the hatches for the optional portions of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. (Heh. “Affordable.” Sorry, I still can’t say that with a straight face.) While I applauded Gov. Scott’s leadership on refusing to accept that ObamaCare is going to become a historical fact and pledging to continue to work toward its repeal, Rep. Wasserman Schultz didn’t happen to see it that way.

Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla., the chair of the Democratic National Committee (DNC), described her state governor as “a spoiled brat” for trying to fight Obamacare even though the Supreme Court ruled the law constitutional.

“I think he’s acting like a spoiled brat,” Wasserman Schultz said of Gov. Rick Scott, R-Fla., per WOKV. “He insisted that the law was unconstitutional, and the Supreme Court has ruled. The matter should be settled.”

Yes, I do think that perhaps someone is showing just a touch of petulance here — but it isn’t Gov. Scott.

I believe the court ruled that if it is not a tax, then it is unconstitutional.

it is for collections, they don’t care about much other than getting that money collected - the IRS is the most brutal collection agency in the world.

A cat can have kittens in the oven, but that doesn't make them biscuits.

It's either a tax or it's not.

If it's a tax, then the IRS can collect it. If it's not a tax, then no agency can collect it because it's not within the power of Congress to impose it.

I have been studying Robert's opinion and articles on his opinion. The only way this is a tax is that so say requiring someone to engage in an activity is a tax. The Penalty for not buying insurance is a Penalty.

I think I have discovered something else. In essence, SCOTUS has destroyed ObamaCare. Although the mandate was important, it was equally important that the Federal Government be allowed to force States to increase Medicaid Coverage. This would allow "free" coverage from poor to some upper middle class families. However, this was thrown out as unconstitutional.

So now, the mandate will be a tax for those individuals who live in states that do extend medicaid to middle and upper middle class. THERE IS YOUR TAX on the middle class.

Also, the Feds were paying for this force medicaid coverage by gutting Medicare. Now that SCOTUS has thrown this out will the money go back to Medicare? Finally, and Rush pointed this out, in states that do not set up exchanges, individuals can join the Federal Exchange. But in the spirit of we have to pass the bill to see what is in it, the bill did not fund the federal exchange. This is why smart governors have already declared they are not increasing Medicaid coverage and not setting up exchanges.

Of course it is a tax.

They said Social Security was not a tax (They called if "Insurance".) but it is a tax.

So is commie-care. This completes the takeover cycle. It is OVER for the America you once knew.

Say "Welcome Comrade".

“We’re not going to tolerate that any more in America. You have to be responsible and you have to pay a penalty if you choose not to be,”

What a steaming pantload. "Progressives" DEPEND on irresponsible people to keep them in power.

So, are they going to start "penalizing" "irresponsible" people in their base that end up on welfare because of their "irresponsibility"? I thought not.

IF you watched the video you would see that it is about non-compliance.

The secede video is fools gold, IMHO. They want to tear the union apart so they can roll out absolute military force and crush dissenters. Certain types are poking us in the eye intentionally hoping for this reaction.

If we wish to be a nation of laws, then we must organize together. Only then will there be the power to resist tyranny.

My 2 cents

Your thoughts are appreciated. My interpretation was different - more of non compliance - only in areas that are possible to do that.

We can refuse to purchase certain products or try to fight installation of smart meters... Lawful dissent types of things.

LIB asshats are inherently stupid and not to be trusted at any level. Shun them, avoid them, confuse them, confront them, ridicule them, mock them, harass them, fire them, torment them, defeat them...

LIB moonbats should be treated similarly.
