RALEIGH -- Uriel Alberto, a Winston-Salem paralegal arrested in February for disrupting a legislative hearing on immigration, will have to wait a while for his trial. Because the 25-year-old Mexican native is here in this country illegally and without a license, he had to rely on someone else to drive him to Wake County District Court on Monday. He was late, and Judge Erin Graber was not happy about that. Alberto entered an Alford plea, acknowledging that there was enough evidence to convict him but not admitting guilt. Scott Holmes, his Durham attorney, immediately appealed the verdict, giving Alberto a chance to have a trial in Superior Court. That could be weeks or months away. To Alberto, one of the many young immigrants brought to this country as a child by parents seeking a better life, his homeland is foreign. But in the United States, the place he considers home, he is foreign and illegal. After 17 years in North Carolina he thinks of himself as a Southern boy.

Albertos decision to interrupt the legislative hearing could mean he is not only forced by immigration rules to leave the U.S., he also could leave behind his 2-year-old child, who lives in Orlando with his mother.Falls under I am undocumented and I am unafraid,But his willingness to risk arrest to empower his community could result in him being sent back to a homeland he barely knows.I see he is using sob stories of my daughter who lives in Florida, ,he is using the standard answer of, being sent back to a homeland he barely knows. I see he using the excuse I had no ride to court, to arrive on time or was he planning on fleeing but talked out of it. oh poor pitiful me. ( I am undocumented and I am unafraid,) Uh huh..
Let’s make him afraid, shall we?!
I think we both know, he will not be going any where. He’ll fall under some policy Obama just made up for cases like this. That’s why illegals can chant undocumented and unafraid, they know they are not going nowhere. They just mock our laws and have little to fear.
