On Saturday, as he sat in his wheelchair on the front porch of the family’s Austin home, Shepard found himself in the line of fire.
This time it killed him.
His 61-year-old mother, Margaret Shepard, said her son was outside visiting with at least one other man just after noon Saturday when the shooting started outside in the 4900 block of West Washington Boulevard. She was in the kitchen, unloading groceries, when she heard two gunshots “and they were really close.”
“I thought ‘oh my goodness, what is going on here?’ ” Shepard said, noting that she walked through the family’s apartment toward the front of the residence. “As I walked through the dining room, I could hear three more shots.”
Shepard said her son’s girlfriend came running in to the house amid the chaos screaming about the shootings.

Yea, that’s Chicago alright. Those feral animals who showed up in the courtroom to taunt that family should be hunted down and shot like rabid dogs.
It seems to be an omen of things to come. Sad thing is I keep reading about all the murders and shootings in Chicago but not about many arrests. Perhaps the lives of the citizens that live there are not too important to their officials.

Naa it was the other way around. It seems the little girl’s family is gang connected and were taunting the killer. That he had no chance of surviving in Cook County jail..
Thank God I live in a place where the biggest crime is kids shooting off illegal fireworks (sky rockets). And the cops are coming down hard on them too. Did I mention that almost everyone here has guns, yet NO gun crime.
Whgat is truly amazing is that as long as it is blacks killing blacks no one seems to care. Now if one of the killers was white the place would light up on Al and Jesse’s map like a strobe.
All of the fuss over one weed smoking little fight club member killed by a black-white - Hispanic in Florida, and nothing done with wholesale killings in Chicago.
I guess Rahm has the situation well in hand.

This wins worst headline of the day award.
At the end of a year, more people will be killed in Chicago than the entire population of my town. Probably a couple times over.
The first shooting in some 30 years was a couple years back.

It is an utter tragedy. I DO care. I’m not in any city, thank God. But my heart breaks for the good people that are there, that are stuck or are losing their neighborhoods to overwhelming odds. Senseless and tragic.
