We've been anxiously waiting for the wraps to officially come off the 2013 Mercedes-Benz CLS Shooting Brake, and by golly, the wait is finally over. Our excitement, though, is tempered by Mercedes-Benz Manager of Product & Technology Public Relations Christian Bokich, who tells us, "Currently, there are no plans to bring the CLS Shooting Brake to the United States." To which we reply, "Boo!"
While we may take a bit of issue with Mercedes-Benz's assertion that "The proportions of the CLS Shooting Brake are surprising but clearly those of a coupé... but with five doors and a roof which continues through to the rear," we're still pretty keen on the exterior look. "In essence it represents an unprecedented version of a sports car with five seats and a large tailgate," adds M-B, and that much we can mostly agree with.

This reminds me of a time in 1991. I was a Time Magazine subscriber (Prior to Commie Tailspin). I received an opinion poll. The asked if any particular ad in the magazine struck me more than the others. I said "Yes, are you referring to the Caprice ad?" She asked what I thought and I said "It's the ugliest car I've ever seen". The 1991 Caprice was being unveiled that week.
Anyway, Mercedes has unveiled their new model. As Yogi would say it's like Deja Vu all over again.

A real shooting brake has to have at least some wicker to be considered proper. Also, an open rear end would facilitate pass shooting.

The Caprice is a LOT better looking, and probably cost less than the national debt of a Mediterrean country.

Yea, it’s ugly but then just about every vehicle now is ugly. Ugly vehicles are now the benchmark.

What is a “shooting brake”, for the uninformed?

"What is a shooting brake, for the uninformed?" It's an English term used to describe an often upmarket car that has had the bodywork altered to make it more of an estate car/station wagon to make it more practical when used for hunting grouse on the moors as it allows you to carry some hounds and beaters. For example:

Uploaded with
ImageShack.us Nowadays it just means any old posh station wagon that the manufacturer istrying to add some cachet to.
