Some (MD) Residents May Be in the Dark Through the Week

Pepco has crews working around the clock to restore power knocked out by Friday night’s storm, but some customers may remain in the dark through the week.

Pepco estimates 90 percent of the outages will be restored by 11 p.m. Friday, a timetable Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett called unacceptable at a news conference with Gov. Martin O’Malley.

"Nobody will have their boot further up Pepco's backside than I will to make sure we get there," O'Malley said about the July 6 timeframe.

Pepco president Tom Graham said about 343,000 customers remain without power as of noon Sunday. About 443,000 people were without power at the thunderstorm’s peak.

The company has 2,100 people mobilized for the restoration effort, including about 580 power line personnel expected to arrive Monday from Oklahoma, Florida and Georgia. Crews are working around the clock and in 16-hour shifts.

I had no power for nine days after the Oct 29th/Alfred snow storm hit CT. Already O'Malley reminds me of Malloy in CT demanding a instant fix to massive damage.

From the pictures I've seen the damage looks very similar to the damage in Northern CT/Western MA.

My Mother lives down in VA and they are saying the same thing. My brother is taking her to his home in Raleigh to wait out the repair in air conditioned comfort.

I live just outside of Lynchburg, and in the city, there are people who are trapped on side streets because of huge fallen trees at each end. According to the news, there’s no ice or bottled water to be bought, and hotels are full up.

Appalachian Power says they expect all power to be back on by Saturday.

After riding out ten tropical storms, including hurricanes, and dealing with the worst part - the aftermath and clean-up, my sympathies to any and all neighboring states, families and regular people affected by this line of storms.

If, however, you live inside of 30 miles from the Washington Beltway, my sympathies are, shall we say, "muted."

Here in my part of Stafford County we were without power for only 20 hours. There are thousands who will be without power through the week. We were lucky.

Yesterday, Quantico MCB was shut down due to the damage and my wife's agency is without power so they are all telecommuting until further notice.

Tough talking dork---go ahead and you can legally gay marriage your own boot to Pepco's butt, you O'Malady. Mealy mouthed Jerk!

Do you ever notice the abusive manner Democrats use to talk about those they work with? Obama about BP "kicking ass" and now O'Malley's vulgarism about repair personnel, as if they caused the storms!

O'Malley, Mick Punk Thug.

Let them get their sympathy from their Precious Leader, who has high-tailed it out of DC to Camp David.

Living in that heat with no elect is not fun. I was out elect in Florida for 15 days after hurricanes in 2004. No AC, fans, no water, were the worst. The house becomes like a sauna, and you try to sleep on top of the sheets nearest the window to catch the slightest breeze. Brought back memories of my childhood in the 50s in a home with no AC, but at least we had fans to make it tolerable back then.

Now I have a generator that can run a window AC and the refrig so if it happens again I will be better prepared. Believe me, I will never take for granted the ability to enter a dark room and flip a switch and have light. Living without elect is a bummer.

I "lived" in maryland ( THE Freak state) for about 30 years until recently. I can attest that most maryland voters have always "been in the dark". It is their perpetual state of existance.

MD residents have been in the dark about Dem corruption (mostly Dems, there was Spiro...) and incompetence for decades.

A pox on both their houses. Pepco is AWFUL...the only thing they are efficient at is getting their bills out on time; and now they want another rate hike. We live in No. Bethesda, and will consider ourselves lucky if we get power back by Thursday. We are at one daughter/son in law in Gaithersburg for last 2 nights and will likely go to other daughter/son in law in Leesburg for the next few nights.

And O'Malady is the worst gov in the union...even worse than CA's Brown and NY's Cuomo.

I spent last week at Boy Scout Camp in MD. No A/C plus we slept in tents and walked everywhere.

A/C is a recent phenomenon and I daresay we can learn to live without it for a few days.

I’ve been through several weeklong power outages, both summer and Michigan Winter. It’s doable.

During the Oct. storm that hit MA/NY/CT/NJ Gov. Malloy of CT made some comment how the efforts of crews from around the country wasn’t good enough for CT or something like that. I will have to try to find that.

You may be able to but many sick and/or elderly people can not. Some would be gone within 12 hours.
