Roberts then engaged in his own lobbying effort - trying to persuade at least Justice Kennedy

A friend of the family who supported so strongly "conservative" Roberts after he had been nominated by Bush is one of those swearing to not vote because it's Romney and not a "conservative" running against Obama. He's still thinking his candidate will jump in.

He's been trying to tell everyone that Roberts did the right thing for the party because now Obama will lose because it's a tax.

My justice has a first name.... it’s C L A R E N C E.
My Justice has a second name ..... it’s T H O M A S.

WTF, Justice CLARENCE Thomas doesn’t get the courtesy of a first name along with Antonin & Samuel?

OIh yeah, he’s just the Black guy. The Uncle Tom on the court (sarc)

“It is not known why Roberts changed his view on the mandate and decided to uphold the law. At least one conservative justice tried to get him to explain it, but was unsatisfied with the response, according to a source with knowledge of the conversation.”

Not a clue how he got pressured. Certainly it wasnt his waiting till his 40s to get married, when he realized he wanted to be a federal judge.
And it surely wasn’t his -Pro Bono- work to overturn to Colorado law excluding homos from EEOC minority status.
And it certainly wasn’t his friendly ruling for gay marriage in DC.

And i’m almost SURE that the dems never had access to his FBI file from when he worked in GHW Bush’s white house counsel office.

I think he was told he was about to be given the Cain, Palin, Newt, treatment. Didnt want to be the next Governor McGreevey from New Jersey.

Is Roberts trying to do for Obama what Ross Perot did for Clinton??

Since the House controls the Supreme Court budget, is there any reason they can't hold hearings to find out what the hell happened? If Holder has to explain his decisions before a committee, why not at least hold a hearing to explain this constitutional train wreck?

Do you happen to have the statistics on how often Roberts attends church or his religious involvment. IIRC he’s a practicing Catholic.

Was he bought off? If I recall the original healthcare passage, it took appointing a relative of a Congressman to the Federal bench to get one of the votes. And Barack is the guy who tried to sell his own Senate seat. And the guy who sells illegal lottery tickets to get people to donate to his campaign “win a dinner with Barry!”.

From the article:

......”After the historic oral arguments in March, the two knowledgeable sources said, Roberts and the four conservatives were poised to strike down at least the individual mandate. There were other issues being argued - severability and the Medicaid extension - but the mandate was the ballgame. “..........

......................”In the Court’s private conference immediately after the arguments, he was aligned with the four conservatives to strike down the mandate.

Roberts was less clear on whether that also meant the rest of the law must fall, the source said. The other four conservatives believed that the mandate could not be lopped off from the rest of the law and that, since one key part was unconstitutional, the entire law must be struck down.

Because Roberts was the most senior justice in the majority to strike down the mandate, he got to choose which justice would write the Court’s historic decision. He kept it for himself.”.........

what a weasel.

If a JUROR is influenced by the media, while sitting on the panel, it is considered a BAD thing.

He ALREADY KNEW what the ruling would be...just for the record on Obama’s ORIGINAL reaction to the mis-reported ruling:

Barack Obama got to watch his own legacy crumble on live television, standing just outside the Oval Office where a flat screen broadcasts the feeds of four different cable news stations. “Supreme Ct. Kills Individual Mandate,” one quarter of the screen read, and then another network followed with the same grim news. Two years of work, most of his political capital, the chance to insure millions more Americans — it was all slipping away. The President did not speak. He just gazed at the monitor, looking anxious and puzzled, one aide said.

If he had a shred of decency he would resign. He made a political decision based in megalomania. He violated his oath, he disgraced himself and now he jokes about it. He’s as unlawful as Obama. So now we have a rogue POTUS and a rogue Chief Justice of the SCOTUS. Peachy.

I am reading this and I am crying. We have a wondrous thing and we are systematically destroying it — and I say this as a first generation American born not of this land.

I think his past associations were in his file. Remember “Filegate”? Theres a LOT of talk on the internet that he might have a Reggie Love somewhere in his past. As a private lawyer he even did free work for the gay rights cause. He would have been easy to blackmail.

This decision was shoddy. Even kennedy wanted to throw it out. Im betting Roberts wanted to stay in the closet. And if Hillary and Obama knew specifics about his past,,, it would have been easy.

Outside a diner today, we overheard a conversation among a retired couple and one of their friends. The sole woman specifically mentioned that her daughter had to pay $5,000/month for drugs that an insurance company wouldn’t pay for due to a pre-existing condition. The woman’s tone sounded like a defense of 0bama DeathcareTax (O-DCT) to me.

I ALMOST shouted out something to the effect of, “So, you think I should pay for these drugs?”

That’s it, isn’t it? Someone ELSE is supposed to pay for all this chit, and cover illegals, uninsured, etc., etc., in addition to our own care and maintenance, charitable contributions, and so forth.

I have learned that for every 3 illegals coming here now, 2, TWO for those people in Rio Linda, are violent criminals or drug runners. THESE are people for whom you and I are supposed to pay through the nose health care, and smile to the federal HHS-IRS agent while doing it.

And if we don’t, our checking will be docked anyway.

Yes, Roberts changed his mind and is now in Malta getting paid off. I have a new name for him: The Maltese Fail Con (T-MF-C).

Great article, thank you for the post.

I must say it makes me even more disappointed in Roberts.

There are only a handful of people around who can divine what Roberts did and the ramifications of why he did it. Robert Bork is one, but so far he has not said anything, which indicates to me that he knows, but he is not going to “give the game away” by saying.

Roberts himself has almost bulletproof legal credentials, having clerked for judge Henry Friendly of the 2nd Circuit, regarded as perhaps the most brilliant federal judge who ever lived, and whose decisions are second most cited by the Supreme Court after judge Learned Hand. 19 out of Friendly’s 51 clerks became Supreme Court Justices.

If he, and his family, were threatened, that’s just too bad. Quit if you can’t handle it. Instead, he just placed 305 million of us straight into the Communist regime. Even subtracting the large number of Communists who infest the US, that’s still quite a few million he just turned over to DeathCare.

He needed to get over himself, again, IF he were threatened.

I thought that one of the whole points of these ridiculous life-time assignments is so that they are not scared into doing something they shouldn’t...

Don’t care if he was threatened, don’t care if his family was threatened, don’t care if he was bought, don’t care if he was promised a date night and free room at the Four Seasons with Ruth Bader Ginsberg, don’t care if he’s a closet homosexual, and don’t care if he they have nude pictures of his family. He was wrong. No matter how it’s diced. He was wrong.
