America is in the throes of a presidential campaign that presents real hope for the future of America (Romney) versus the same-old, same-old (Obama). While it appears right now that Obama and his socialist policies will lose in November, America will still be faced with many problems that have crept into society in the past fifty years.
While America has many liberal-caused problems, let's examine just three of them: welfare, race relations, and education.
Welfare: In his State of the Union address on January 8, 1964, President Lyndon B. Johnson declared "war on poverty." Johnson's speech led Congress to pass the Economic Opportunity Act, which established the Office of Economic Opportunity (OEO) to administer the local application of federal funds targeted against poverty. Since then, the federal government has spent approximately $16 trillion on welfare. Welfare includes, among other programs, the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP), the former food stamp program, and unemployment insurance.
In 2011, the Subcommittee on Regulatory Affairs, Stimulus Oversight and Government Spending of the House of Representatives Committee on Oversight and Government Reform held a hearing on the issue of "Duplication, Overlap, and Inefficiencies in Federal Welfare Programs." At that hearing, Patricia A. Dalton, the chief operating officer of the General Accountability Office (GAO), testified that the GAO could not identify all existing...

Will liberals ever wake up and face the facts that their ideas and policies don't work? How many times must they be shown that policies they implement have never worked? You would think that fifty years would be long enough for them to view the results of their labors. But in the face of what their policies have wrought, their only response is that America has not spent enough money! For liberals, evidence be damned -- it's their policies that count.

Those who lean right and small 'l' libertarians should be low hanging fruit after Obama. The challenge is the independents that swing, as they did swing left in 2006 and 2008, those who swung right in 2010, and those who leal left, but have an open mind. Somehow, we need to break the ice with them. Hint, their vehicles are not sporting Obama bumper stickers.
If I were lib, I’d be laughing and smiling and flipping everyone the bird too.
They might be a minority of the voting population, but they’re sure dragging us all around by the jimmy.
Since Obama took office, they haven’t lost a single major battle - even after the 2010 election. :)
It’s a great day to be a liberal. :)
Are you kidding?
You can’t get conservatives to wake up, who in general are supposed to be more sensible than liberals, so don’t hold out any hope of liberals changing their stripes.
The real conservatives are awake. There are too many out there that think they’re conservative but are really liberal, though.
No.
Liberals will never wake in sufficient numbers to save this republic.
Democracies are doomed when the people discover they can vote to steal the income of hard working citizens. Sadly, our republic has become more like a democracy than the republic that the founders gave us.
Separation is the only answer! Let them fend for themselves without access to out pocketbooks....they won’t last long.
Our only hope was a man like Newt, he is smart enough and flawed enough to have given this republic many more years.
The day will come and it’s not far off when many will think of Newt and long for what might have been.
Romney doesn’t represent any hope for me. He’ll just take us over the cliff at 110 mph vs 120 mph for Obama. Either way, we’re screwed.
That day is already here for this FReeper.
“Will liberals ever wake up and face the facts that their ideas and policies don’t work? How many times must they be shown that policies they implement have never worked?”
What if they’re well aware of what happens when their ideas and policies are implemented, and still want to implement them anyway?
HOW LONG DO WE HAVE?
About the time our original thirteen states adopted their new constitution in 1787, Alexander Tyler, a Scottish history professor at the University of Edinburgh, had this to say about the fall of the Athenian Republic some 2,000 years earlier:
“A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government.”
“A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury.”
“From that moment on, the majority always vote for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship.”
“The average age of the world’s greatest civilizations from the beginning of history, has been about 200 years”
“During those 200 years, those nations always progressed through the following sequence:
1. from bondage to spiritual faith;
2. from spiritual faith to great courage;
3. from courage to liberty;
4. from liberty to abundance;
5. from abundance to complacency;
6. from complacency to apathy;
7. from apathy to dependence;
8. From dependence back into bondage”
If Alexander Tyler could speak up, he would say I told you so
No.
As soon as they wake up they are no longer liberals.
That’s how it works.
Romney doesnt represent any hope for me. Hell just take us over the cliff at 110 mph vs 120 mph for Obama. Either way, were screwed.
That’s about it.
No.
As soon as they wake up they are no longer liberals.
Thats how it works.
That’s exactly right.
The problem is that not many ever wake up.
How do you define “welfare spending”? It's an important question. The above mentioned SNAP and U.S. government unemployment annual outlays are only about $75 billion and $65 billion respectively, not chump change, but less than 5% of the budget. So does “welfare” include social security and medicare, medicaid? If so, then are we proposing to eliminate them? If we eliminate them, then we also eliminate the payroll taxes that support them, which are about 40% of all taxes collected. And guess what, then we still have an enormous deficit.
To get serious about eliminating the deficit, we're going to have to cut more than “welfare.” Or we're going to have to collect more in taxes. Few people want to face up to that. The fact is, we've all been living on government "welfare" for the last 30 years or so, with the government running up huge deficits so that we can have what we want without paying for it.
The Liberals running all of these programs know full well they don’t work, never have worked, and never will work, but they don’t give a damn, as long as they can continue to hold onto power, prestige and pursestrings.
They don’t WANT to solve these problems.
That's exactly the problem; it's not for lack of education. Many (most?) conservatives make the error of assuming that their own goals (i.e. practical, functional solutions) are the same as the liberals' goals. Wrong. The goals of the leftists are money, power, and destruction of truth, mercy and justice, veiled by "proof" of their unassailable caring and compassion.
So, what of Mary Jo? Eh, she should have known better...
Scratch the average dingbat leftists and out come the totalitarians in the mold of their leaders. After all, they are certain that Obama's "got their back" and will reward them for their loyalty. Besides actual cash payments (the money goal), the benefits include all manner of exemptions and waivers. The rules won't apply to them (the power goal).
From their perspective, honest, uncorrupted people are naive idiots who get what they deserve and deserve to be stomped.
“Will liberals ever wake up and face the facts that their ideas and policies don’t work? “
I think Jonestown is the answer to that question.
People need to read Johnah Goldberg's "Liberal fascism" book. Or simply check out this article. http://www.americanthinker.com/2009/05/barack_obama_the_quintessentia_1.html The days when we had "liberals" are long gone. The Utopia of liberal fascists needs to be destroyed, and these liberal fascists need to be unseated from their thrones, even as they dictate to a free people.
I agree, its the only one way to get out of this mess. Corrupt government must be replaced and the socialist theology replaced with self-dependence of the people.
Spending must decrease and taxes must go up. There must be a balanced budget with excesses paying down the debt.
Remember early in the 2012 Presidential Primary Debates when the question was asked to all 9 candidates to raise their hands if they would NOT support 10:1 spending cuts to tax increases? They all raised their hands with Cain being last after looking around and seeing he was the last to not do so.
No candidate that has the ideas to help lead us from destruction will ever get elected.
