House and Senate Republican leaders, collectively the Stupid Party, are yet again set to expand government, government spending, and engage in Keynesian economic policies they’ve criticized Barack Obama for.
Somewhat wisely, they are releasing all this as the Supreme Court releases its Obamacare decision so no one will pay attention. Ironically, as we wait to see if the Supreme Court gives Congress plenary power through the Commerce Clause, Congressional Republicans are feeding the Leviathan on their own.
Republicans and Democrats have agreed to a massive increase in federal gluttony with a highway bill. The Republicans decided to drop demands for approving the Keystone XL pipeline and demands that the EPA stop its ridiculous regulations on coal plants that will harm our energy future. In exchange, Democrats will not fund bike paths and highway landscaping.
In other words, Democrats should not be at all worried about Republican plans for Obamacare should any portion of it be declared unconstitutional later today. The GOP will just get scared and cave.
We’re at $16 billion TRILLION in debt and as the sun rises this morning we are reminded of two things: the Republicans are not serious about paying down the debt and many outside conservative groups will politely avert their eyes arguing that we must fight Barack Obama, not stop the Republican’s complicity in bankrupting our nation.
So much for credibility in the argument on spending.
Yes, there are a few fiscally conservative republicans, it’s just that they don’t have any leadership positions and since they are outspoken…the leadership is quite set on ensuring they remain on the sideline.
If you want conservative government, the future lies in sea change at the top. There’s a long way to go for that. It is a shame that Americans are forced to fight their governing parties tooth and nail to act in their interest, but we do and that’s not changing any time soon.
Politicians want to redistribute hard earned money to people who refuse to work. They expect those people on the receiving end to re-elect them. The people who are working hard resent this political game.
I watched CSPAN the other day when Rep. Broun, of Georgia, tried to cut the budget with numerous amendments. He failed because the Repubs didn’t vote with him. It made me sick!!!
It is going to take us several elections to weed out the weak kneed Republicans. Eventually, we will be successful. I hope I live long enough to see conservative leadership in the House and the Senate.
A Sea Change in at the top of government is not coming anytime soon.
The path to power defines who gets there.
The path to power in congress requires three things:
Longevity or getting reelected you have to be in congress for awhile to learn in ins and outs of party politics and build alliances,
Deal making or power brokering as in how to get what you want while giving someone else what they want while still appearing not too,
Finally visibility or name recognition; you have to be known by press and the people.
Unfortunately for we conservatives every one of these things pretty much necessitate spending tax dollars.
You bring home the bacon to get reelected (in most districts). You broker power by making deals to spend tax dollars. You get name recognition by bringing home the bacon and making deals. You write bills to either spend money or exempt some special interest from paying taxes or to punish some special interest by making them pay taxes or spend their money in some specific way.
Unless there is a revolution in the way the public decides who they will vote for representatives the type of people in the leadership is unlikely to change. There is hope along these lines especially in the West but it will have to gain strength in the rest of the country to make any inroads in the leadership.
It’s not the “Stupid Party”, it’s the “Phony Party”. The purpose of the Republican Party is to maintain the PRETENSE that there is opposition to Socialism, while blocking any actual attempt to roll back Socialism’s gains.
It’s getting harder and harder to believe that the Republican Party can do anything for this country. The Republican Party has given us Bush, Sr., Dole, Bush, the Lesser, McCain, and, now, Romney. We have just had a Bush (Republican Party) appointee enable the largest tax increase in the history of humanity by turning the Constitution on its ear. Such Conservatism! Someone (was it Rush) called his action the most activist decision to date!
The Republican Party takes your vote, takes my vote, takes the votes of countless millions of like-minded Conservatives for granted, knowing we have no place to go. Conservatives are to the Republican Party what Welfare recipients are to the Democrat Party. Unfortunately, we are to blame. We don’t walk away. We keep coming back like the abused spouse who “just can’t see living without that man!”
Yes, the only stupid ones are the conservatives who continue, year after year, and tear after tear, to vote for the phony party.
Here's hoping enough Republican Governors say, "Enough!" and tell the Feds and SCOTUS to suck rocks...
But we are different.
The hope in the West that I spoke about is our path to success.
The Tea Party candidates are getting support from big money groups like the Club for Growth in primary challenges against old school deal maker republicans like Orrin Hatch in Utah. Hatch was challenged in a primary for the first time since 1976 and was forced to spend big to win.
Hatch may have won but others like Bob Bennett Have been turned out. I see this as our path to success. We must put up conservative candidates in the primaries and support them with our time and money.
This would help us in two ways. If our candidate wins or looses the primary we have more conservative candidates campaigning and putting conservative ideas before the voters (this will normalize conservative thinking in society). The Left has managed over the years to vilify conservative thought claiming that conservatives are selfish and mean. We need conservative candidates that put a positive voice to conservative thought and explain the evils of progressivism.
Second win or lose in the primary we will move the incumbent to the right because he will adopt some of the conservative’s policy ideas as a defensive measure. If we manage to get our candidate elected in the primary we are moving Congress to the Right. But win or loose this strategy advances our cause by putting pressure on the party to become more conservative.
Once these people get to Washington, they change. They find out quickly that the American people really want their pork. If people wanted smaller government and less spending, we would have it by now. This will not stop until we are bankrupt like Europe.
Think the food stamp program problem is about welfare queens and fraud? Think again. It’s about big ag businesses being on the government teat. Try cutting back any food or farm program of any kind and see just how fast those “conservative” politicians in the west fight to keep the gravy train going.
If that is all conservatives do you are correct.
If you are a conservative and want things in government to change for the better it takes more than that.
It going take getting involved in your local political organization; You need to find out who the conservatives are in your township, county and state Republican Party and support them however you can with your cash and/or your time.
If you aren’t involved in the Republican Party don’t complain if they don’t reflect your values.
I have been working in my county party for about 12 years now and I have seen it becoming more conservative in that time. Get involved and be a positive influence.
The system is so stacked against third parties we have to work within one of the two major parties to have any hope of reversing the trend to a more and more socialist system. We must infiltrate the Republican Party and change it from within just as the socialist did the Democrat Party.
You are certainly right that Washington is a hugely corrupting influence on people of good character.
But just like a new car a representative takes maintenance to keep it running well.
Once you have your politician in office you have to keep on top of them to keep them running on the strait and narrow.
If they break down to the point they don’t run so well you replace them. You may occasionally have buyers remorse but then you lay your money down and you take your chances.

You might be a little too optimistic, but there is truth to what you say. Tuesday in the Oklahoma US House District 1, a Republican incumbent who was reasonably conservative, was upset by a Tea Party supported very conservative candidate.
Welcome new Representative Bridenstine to the US House in January. He is NOT beholden to moderates or Rinos.
This is not my District, but I am pleased.
BTW, Oklahoma has 77 counties and all 77 voted against Ubama in the last election. (I hope it truly was not the LAST election in our fragile Republic.)

Well thanks for that, I try to stay optimistic because it is against my nature.
Optimism is a requirement for a free nation. If we become pessimistic we tend toward totalitarianism.
Congratulations to Oklahoma. I am quite surprised because I thought Oklahoma City was pretty Progressive.
