If roadside bombs and other hazards of war don't kill military dogs, senseless government regulations and red tape might. The United States is breeding 100 puppies a year to train for bomb sniffing and other soldierly duties, but many aren't making it back to happy homes because an obscure federal law classifies them as "equipment" rather than personnel -- and makes adopting them a financial and bureaucratic nightmare. A bill to require that the military ship the heroic dogs home and ease potential veterinarian costs for adopting families is currently bogged down in Congress, as dogs continue to be euthanized. In the meantime, at least there is an occasional happy ending.

You should read more carefully.
Follow your own advice. Get the telephone pole out of your own eye before worrying about the speck in someone else’s. Just sayin’.
Very well said, and thank you! You put it better than I did.
I quote people so as not to misrepresent them. See post #43, please. I think that’ll answer your questions.
Please note that this fool is well enough aware that he is a fool to have so named himself.

I was saving that one.
At least half of his user name is self explanatory.
Do not waste further electrons on this soulless cretin.
All the dogs, except those who gave their lives in battle, were returned.
Some of the biggest named show kennels in America sent *many* of their Dobes.
Check out my profile page.
War dogs were/are trained to respond to *several* handlers due to the possibility of one handler getting hit and nobody being able to get to him because the dog is ‘guarding’ him.
‘Killing animals is not murder. Dogs are not veterans any more than cannons are. Theyre not police officers any more than squad-cars are. Theyre not personnel. Theyre not soldiers. “
I DARE you to go kill any one of the above and see just how *much* they *are* “soldiers”, “personnel” and “officers”.
Put up or shut up.
“I never will understand why some feel that their special relationship to God is somehow threatened by showing compassion to Gods other creatures.”
Sheer religious egotism.
[or a deep hatred of animals with the attending horror that they *might* have to spend eternity surrounded by them]
If nothing else, imagine how thrilled law enforcement agencies would be to get an already trained bomb or police dog for little or no cash.
Exactly. Even if they are ill they deserve far better than to be killed. Hopefully as some have posted here this is changing.
If equipment, why can’t they be surplused?
Given the “Doggy” do that Barack Obama earlier stepped in politically, maybe he’ll be willing to sign a bipartisan bill, the WOOF (Wardogz On to Our Families) Act.
LOL! Nice idea, but considering that he’s trying to raise the cost of healthcare right now for the military and trying to hold a bill hostage for that — I wouldn’t bet on it. He’s one serious bag of scum.
A huge amen to that and prayers that it -will- change, *completely*.
July 8, they’re rerunning “War Dogs Of The Pacific” on the Military Discovery channel.

Come back to this thread after it’s over and tell me you didn’t cry like a baby.
The men who tell the stories will prove what those dogs mean.
