I thought that stamp tax was only imposed on machine guns.

Okay, someone tell me if I am wrong here. Roberts decided to make certain that the issue was not decided under the Commerce Clause and invented the issue as a Tax. Deciding to not appear the Court look partisan, he sided with the Liberals. In doing so, he changes their argument that the penalty was not a penalty, but a tax, thus negating the Commerce Clause argument.

It seems to me the S.C. should have sent it back to congress and told them to re-write the bill and call it a tax, for it to be acceptable. Make congress call it a tax.

Exactly. That's what doesn't make any sense.

What happened, you ask?

This is proof that ANYONE can be bought, or threatened or blackmailed into acquiescence. Does Roberts have a family, children, a homosexual liaison?

It's the Chicago Way.

Does anybody know when Obama announced that he was going to have a speech after the Obamacare decision was revealed?

Obama would not have decided that if the decision was going to go against him. Obama had to know ahead-of-time that Roberts had changed his vote. Most likely because the person who threatened Roberts into changing his vote reported to Obama that the maneuver was successful. My hunch is that if the change had been made before the AZ ruling came out, Scalia would have reserved his one opportunity to read a scathing rebuttal for Obamacare rather than using it up on AZ. Probably Roberts was threatened at the last minute to keep the other justices from knowing about it in time to try to talk Roberts out of it.

But Obama’s announcement that he would give a speech after the decision was announced is a signal that whoever threatened Roberts has access to Obama. George Soros.

I would guess that Roberts’ bone in Soros’ craw was refusing to uphold it on the Commerce Clause grounds - and thus calling it a TAX, which is a transparently absurd decision that provoked even Justice Kennedy to protest! But the bite that Roberts put in Soros’ crap sandwich is that the Obama people now have to call this a TAX, and the political ramifications will be huge.

IOW, Roberts was threatened at the last minute but as he was going down he also put the dagger in Obama’s electoral gut. The Soros decision to force Obamacare to be upheld was probably already a decision that there wouldn’t be an election, since Obama wouldn’t be able to win an election with opposition to Obamacare galvanized by this decision. But Roberts’ decision will at least hopefully mean that Obama will be despised and hated at the point that Soros’ communist-Islamist alliance makes an October run on the bank to call off elections.

To be honest, I am not angry at Chief Justice Roberts. I am very disappointed that he let himself get bullied by the rats and that arrogant pos occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave

But this decision is so shocking to people. Folks, there’s nothing constitutional about this law. It is utterly shocking. What happened today is disgraceful, and that’s why the rumor mill is ginning up, because people are trying to find a logical explanation because the Constitution effectively didn’t exist today when this decision was announced. “

” Obama was out there saying, “Nobody who makes under $200,000 a year will see their taxes go up as long as I’m president.” Everybody’s taxes go up and sometimes monstrously high here. Obama went to the end of the world trying to convince people this is not a tax increase. And when the mandate was running into trouble, then they tried to say, “Well, maybe it is a tax.” They sent their little Verrilli up to the court to argue, “It could be a tax.” They weren’t excited about it. They didn’t want to sell it that way.

It turns out they didn’t have to. The chief judge found it! He said (summarized), “You know what? I’m just gonna call it a tax. The government can do that. They can’t make everybody buy health insurance with the mandate, but they can with the tax code.” That’s what happened today. It’s an appalling, disgraceful decision. “

I’m with Rush on this one.

I'm livid and disgusted with Roberts. There is no defense for what he did.

This was the decision of an unprincipled coward who could have stood in the breach but didn't, one who claimed to be a constructionist and is not, one who claimed to be for enlightened jurisprudence and is not. There is no way around the horror this will do to to us as a nation. He essentially made a fool of himself, fools out of all conservatives, and fools out of all Americans as this legislation strangles our country, turning it into something that was never envisioned.

RE :”I’m with Rush on this one.

Does Rush know that Romney invented the personal mandate idea? His mandate is actually in effect right now.

I think MA has areal one too with real fines.

Steyn’s take

Yes, Mass does have it, and their healthcare is bankrupting the state.

RE :”Yes, Mass does have it, and their healthcare is bankrupting the state.

Speaking of that. Dems are still saying that Medicare ‘for all’ single payer should be our goal because it is run so efficiently and will save the US money. They also say that there is no question that it is ‘constitutional’ because no one questions it. (it's pretty popular with Republican voters who get the benefits $$$$$ too.)

I saw them making that argument last night, Howard Dean was leading the pack.

In the opinion Roberts wrote something that may not go over well here but it rings true with me as I commented late last night. It said :” It is not our job to protect the people from the consequences of their political choices”.

He is right about that, but is it his job to rewrite leftist laws (penalty ->tax) to protect them from the consequences of their authors' sleazy machinations?
