The lead Sanford police investigator in the Trayvon Martin shooting was transferred Tuesday from detective work to being a simple street cop, the department confirmed.
Chris Serino had asked for the change, the department said.
He will become a uniform patrol officer and work the night shift, said police spokesman Sgt. David Morgenstern.
Serino is not being demoted, Morgenstern said, and his rate of pay is unaffected.

That’s pretty huge, isn’t it? The lead detective exposed as leaking manipulated evidence to the media before the trial?
Isn’t that pretty much grounds for a mistrial, or at the very minimum a change of venue?
That was long overdue. The latest round of prosecution releases sealed his fate.
Matt Gutmann of ABC got exiled, too. The rest of them need to be exposed too.
Treepers did an excellent job!!!
This may be a big deal but it is possible that there is another reason. It is routine in Miami-Dade Co( I know that Sanford isn’t Miami-Dade but all of FL law enforcement seems to follow a similar blueprint) for detectives to go back to patrol in order qualify for a promotion to SGT. I don’t get it. But apparently it is some sort of bizzaro government world requirement. If this guy is up for promotion, it puts us into a whole different bizzaro world situation.
What happened to Guttman???
I hope you’re wrong, but it would seem strange to demote him after they had just fired Chief Lee, who I’m sure was at odds with Serino over his evidence-challenged affidavit that helped to stoke the fires down there.
Apparently Gutmann was getting his “exclusives” from Serino. He’s been transferred to the Middle East, I believe.

The new assignment was announced less than a week after former Sanford Police Chief Bill Lee was fired over the public outcry that resulted from the department’s handling of the case. And it was revealed hours after State Attorney Angela Corey released another batch of evidence in Zimmerman’s second-degree murder trial, raising speculation that Serino’s move to patrol was directly related to the controversial case.
Serino “got demoted because he told the truth,” said Benjamin Crump, an attorney for Martin’s family.
Thanks for the link. They did a great investigative job. This detective is the only one who claimed Zimmmerman should be charged with manslaughter. I bet it was payback over George sticking up for that homeless guy or it could be the guy is a liberal who hates the second amendment.
It’s Wednesday AM and I just saw Gutman doing another one of his typical hit jobs, claiming that GZ must be guilty because the lead detective Serino says so. No mention in his report that Serino, his source, has now been demoted and that he passed two lie detector tests. ABC continues with its deceptive reporting despite the facts.
