Republican Mitt Romney would tackle tough debt and deficit problems if elected on November 6 in ways that potential vice presidential running mate, Senator Rob Portman, said on Tuesday. could leave him at risk of being a one-term president, a "This is something I have never said publicly, I've told my wife this, but I think he'd be willing to risk being a one-term president in order to make the tough decisions that are going to be required," Portman told the Reuters Washington Summit.

And I have a bridge to sell you. Willard will be a one term President for the more likely reason he will stab conservatives in the back from Day 1 and will govern with Democratic-RINO coalition. When 2016 rolls around, he will be dead to GOP primary voters.

His choice of VP will be a good indicator of the direction he intends to go, if his past record isn’t.

Romney might even think he can evade involvement in "social issues" but he can't, and he will instinctively chose the WRONG ANSWER every single time.

That's why he should just stop this nonsense now and get out the way so that we can have a responsible, rational Conservative in the top spot.

The shorter term the better.

Whichever clown is elected, maybe we can begin impeachment proceedings on January 21, 2013.

It's a popular talking point of socialist politicians.

What a bald-faced lie.

Given the economy and more importantly the debt level, he very well may be a one term president - someone has got to step up on entitlements and that will be very, very unpopular.

While I do not believe Romney for an instant, what is being said here is very different from what Obama said.

Obama said his main concern was fixing the economy, because if he didn't fix the economy he would be a one-term President - meaning his main goal was to be reelected.

What Portman is saying is that Romney would be willing to deliberately make tough and unpopular decisions that would prevent him from being reelected - meaning his main goal is doing long-term good for the country and not reelection.

Very different messages.

From the poorly excerpted article:For Romney that sentence is true. But not for nobama. He'll care less, keep spending like crazy, ruling by EO, ignoring Congress and the laws and enjoying his life term as KOTUS.

Lets hope the people have the courage to choose one in 8 years.

Spending must be brought under control.

The chances of either Obama or Romney doing that are virtually zero.

“In an interview with Matt Lauer in the beginning of his presidency, Barack Obama said he should only serve one term if he could not fix the economy.”

Yep. They’re using the same playbook.
But Romney’s better than Zero, like Brown’s better than Pocahantas.
How?

The chances of Romney agreeing to sign the Ryan budget is somewhat more likely than Obama signing it or Romney reducing spending on his own initiative.

Sadly though, even the Ryan budget is vastly insufficient.

Well in Obama’s case he has done everything he wanted. He ran rough shot over the congress and the American people. He has gotten two stimulus packages, paid off his cronies and pushed for PObamacare against the will of everyone much to the detriment of his political parties and more than a few of their careers. If he is a pone term president the damage could last decades.
