Yes, and I learned a lot in that class. The VP was essentially the one that did all the leg work and the President was pretty much a figure head just getting briefings. Things may have changed from the Nixon era. I’m sure that class contributed to my being on FR.
In college, a roommate came back from her first test in a government class flaming mad. The questions weren’t about what they’d been studying, but about things like “who’s the Attorney General, Speaker of the House,” etc. I just looked at her and couldn’t believe she didn’t know.

Biden: Dumb eff. You haven’t lived a middle class life at least since you became a U.S. senator.

Since they don’t show a decimal point, the last “0” is not a “significant figure”, and the house could range anywhere from $2,856,945 to $2,856,955.
Thus, “about $2,856,950”.

I've always heard that the VP serves as a tie breaker in the senate and does little else. I don't think that was any different with Nixon. In fact, I seem to recall that Nixon essentially shunned Agnew.

It would be good to know what the truth is. I was taught the VP did the grunt work for the CIC, while the CIC took all the credit. There’s nothing saying I wasn’t lied to, though. I trusted my teacher because he was my neighbor’s son and didn’t expect him to lie.

He might have just been mistaken. Or God knows what? Even from our founding the office of VP has been looked upon as a joke. The first VP, John Adams called the VP position "the most insignificant office that ever the invention of man contrived or his imagination conceived." That view has pretty much held throughout the years. FDR's VP, John Nance Garner, said the job "wasn't worth a bucket of warm piss." And these views hold pretty steady throughout our history. Lots of men have declined the invitation to run as Vice President for that reason.
Even in modern times, when people assume that VP's have a lot of power (like Cheney), they still serve at the pleasure of the President. There's no evidence to suggest that they're running things. What little they do is in line with what the President wants done, or allows to be done. The real power rest with the President. It's popular to look at him as a puppet, but that's not reality.

I never thought they had power. I thought they were just the CIC’s errand boy basically. Thank you for that information and supplying the direct quotes. I can rest a little easier knowing all Biden is doing is drinking and making gaffes in public.
