AZ Law, portion upheld: If person is detained for other reasons (criminal, etc.), the police CAN check immigration status.

The remainder that were not upheld go back to the 9th Circuit.

I was a bit fuzzier on this one than the HC mandate. I am not surprised by nor all that disappointed by their ruling on this, at least as I understand it so far. Whenever I look at these immigration laws, I try to put myself in the shoes of a legal, naturalized US citizen from Mexico driving down the road in a beat up car (because it is all that I can afford). What kind of police involvement in my life would be expected, assuming I did nothing more than something warranting a speeding citation?
