You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours.
It was the moral indignation of British evangelicals like William Carey and William Wilberforce who demanded not dialogue and endless discussion, but the total elimination of the hideous practice of sati.
Even more pertinently, conservative Christians should take a page of instruction from the person of Christ, who repudiated sin while offering repentance and salvation to the sinner; who excoriated moral degeneracy; and who verbally fire-bombed the religious leaders of his day, describing them as whitewashed tombs, lying hypocrites, and self-serving theological charlatans.
In brief, there are enormous evils within American society which demand righteous indignation and outrage -- not passivity, "love," and "understanding."
Now is the time for conservative churches to heed the wakeup calls and join the Catholic Church in protests before it is too late to do so.
But it will require both leaders and laity to awake from their lethargy, refuse to be intimidated, shrug off ridicule, and above all, refuse to participate in their own funerals.

When Obama expressed that Christian religious symbols were too offensive to be seen during his economics speech Georgetown University should have suggested that Obama find another location for his speech.
Christian institutions should not tolerate denigration of their faith from politicians.
Of what event or battle is that a depiction?
Do I perceive correctly that the British soldiers have the white-robed men tied to the front of the cannons?
Either way (over the cliff or turn away from the cliff) one could lose everything, including ones family. The powers that be will see to it if one of the lemmings steps out of line. Don't believe me ... There are many in past history and recent history one could ask, if they were still here with us and not dead. One should go seeking their family members also, if they survived.
Should a lemming step out of the line?
Blowing someone to pieces from the mouth of a cannon was an oft-used punishment for treason in India and during part of the British rule there. That painting is from the aftermath of the Indian Rebellion of 1857, which finished off the old East India Company and brought in direct British rule of India.

When one compares the words in that post to the give me liberty or give me death attitude of our founding fathers one can get a sense of how far this country has fallen from the land of the free and the home of the brave.

Now is the time??? In 2008, only 26% of Evangelical Protestants voted for Obama (45% of all Protestants). In that same election, 54% of Catholics voted for Obama.
I agree that now is the time for all Christians to join in protest against the Boy King, but I’m worried that the Catholics (especially their leadership) will go back on the Obama bandwagon as soon as HHS agrees to exempt Catholic organizations from the contraceptive/abortion mandates.
It is time to drop the denomination labels and for those who worship in Truth and Spirit to stand together. America is in a spiritual battle. We must fight for the soul of this land.
Christ promises to fight our battles with us. Christians need to enlist and not fall back once they're in the battle to uproot evil. (Psalm 91)

I agree that it looks more like the Catholics are “waking up” and joining the rest of us after dallying with the party of St. John of Camelot for far too long.
I welcome them, but do not trust them to take the lead. Yet.
>>I welcome them, but do not trust them to take the lead. Yet.
That was my point. I’ll stand with them, but they haven’t earned the right to lead America in a conservative Christian revolution.
Exactly who has? Or rather which church has? My church is a member church of the S.B.C. and just like the Catholic church we have people in high places who are liberal and we have people who are conservative. The Christian church, whether Catholic or other, should be unified and speak with one voice against evil but at least in recent history that has not been the case.
Jesus will show us the cure for evil when He returns, until that time we, as individuals have to fight this fight on a personal, individual level, not counting on our separate, ununified churchs, as institutions, to back us.
What does this depict? Who, what, when, where? And why?
The tendency among conservative believers to embrace a sort of survivalist, person-centered theology has been reinforced by the acceptance and promulgation of theological doctrines which separate faith from involvement with the world. Among many conservative Protestants, the theological concept of the Kingdom of God permeating, confronting, and informing earthly institutions has been sidelined in favor of a narrowly defined concept of salvation as personal only. The prophetic voices of Old and New Testament are sometimes considered as relevant only to their own times, not to our own times.
A good, strong article. I’ll have to get in touch with this Fay Voshell.
