Perhaps nothing is as sinister-looking as a sawed off shotgun, whose main mission in life is to inflict damage with a wide spray pattern of buckshot.
But three of these shotguns with shortened barrels and one sawed off .22-calber rifle were right out in the sunlight, laid side-by-side on a folding table during a gun buy-back conducted by the Bradenton Police Department.
When it was over, the department took 29 weapons off the street during its 2012 annual Father's Day Gun Buy-Back Program at two sites Sunday, said Sgt. Eddie Weldon of the Bradenton Police Department.
The department received 18 revolvers, including a .357-caliber Magnum by Smith & Wesson valued at around $400, a .38-caliber former police-issued gun and a .22-caliber handgun.
There were nine rifles received, including the three sawed-off weapons.
There were also two semi-automatic handguns turned in, including a Lorcin .380-cali
ber semi-automatic valued at about $500, which could fire eight or nine rounds with the magazine that came with it, Weldon said.
"Overall, I would say it was very successful," Weldon said of the buy-back.

The guns are to be melted-down.
(after the cops pick out the ones they want to take home)
I think I saw an M1 carbine in the gallery.
BTW I know a guy who’s brother is a cop in Ca, neither are friends of mine, and the cop in Ca has his brother buy 100 round AR15 mags an send them to him to circumvent the laws he is supposed to enforce.
Then when the asshat brother here visits the Cop in Ca takes him to the police range and they blow off tons of ammo for entertainment on the taxpayers dime.
If I lived in that state this would not be so simple for them.
I would sue to force them to check for stolen guns, and to return any found to the lawful owner.
As currently set-up, any punk could steal a gun (or several) and get up to $75.00 for it, NO QUESTIONS ASKED!
Oh, Also, The only folks that can sell across international borders without approval from the State Dept and ATF or liscensing are Eric Holder and the Justice Dept /s
Our Country is broken.
Were these guns actually on the streets?
I know people who cruise gun shows buying broken guns really cheap, just to have them to “Turn In” at the next “Buy-Back” for $100.00 each!
I know one guy who “Antiqued” several Crossman .45 replica BB guns and even cap-guns, then got $100.00 each for them from the ignorant wretch manning the “Buy-Back” booth.
Sometimes “the people” win. ;-)
So do they check if any of them are stolen or maybe used in another crime? Sounds like an easy way to get rid of a murder weapon.
Put it on here: http://www.gunauction.com/ . May as well get some money for it to buy a good gun and teach your kids how to respect and USE it.
“..dont really want it anymore (kids in my house, hasnt been fired in 15 years..”
I’m not trying to be mean, but why are you afraid of having a weapon in your house? Having a family is all the more reason to have a gun.
Just do as millions of other responsible adults do and keep it out of the kids reach. Better yet, teach them gun safety and how to properly use it.
FYI, the its like a cheap version of a tec-9. (Gang banger gun!) I don’t know the model it is silver/gray color and has room for a big clip. I just don’t want it to be in the news at a later date.. but I’ll take it to a gun dealer next opportunity.. Thansks for your suggestions!
If its a Tec9 type you may wish to call a dealer and inquire about it.
I know high cap detachable mags are illegal in Ca now.
I’m sure it was legal when you bought it, but I would hate to see you get in any trouble.
At any rate, a Ca Dealer can set you straight on Ca laws.
