My friend Bill Otis was a Justice Department lawyer for many years. He spent a good portion of those years as a prosecutor. He also served as an attorney in the White House Counsel’s shop, so he knows all about dealing with unpleasant congressional investigations and demands for documents.
In short, Bill is extremely very well positioned to comment knowledgably on the dispute between Rep. Issa’s Committee and Eric Holder, and on the White House’s decision to assert executive privilege. Here is what Bill had to say:
Even with his fawning press, [Presdient Obama] will pay a price for this one. He knows this, meaning that the documents now to be withheld must be dynamite. They have to show either that Holder knew what was going on with Fast and Furious and approved it, or that he directly committed perjury in his Congressional testimony, or both. I just can’t see any other explanation for such a risky move.
Wasn’t the Washington Post just covering big time the 40th anniversary of Watergate? I wonder how much coverage this one will get.
UPDATE: Some have speculated that Obama’s intervention means that the president himself has something to hide.

If this involved a Republican AG and president, the MSM would be giving it the full monte with saturation, wall-to-wall, 24X7 coverage. Instead, the leftist MSM is putting up a fire wall to block out any meaningful coverage. The MSM is totally corrupt.

But, somehow I'm betting that any document that endangered this idiot's status as president has most certainly been... 'Uh... destroyed, and uh.... accidentally, uh... of course.'
What IS IMPORTANT is that this is a STARE DOWN, with Obama and Holder trying to show CONGRESS and the HOUSE that The King and his Magistrate do not have to take orders from anyone.
Obama and Holder know that if ISSA is successful at this, there are plenty of other little problems that really could be damaging. So... they are drawing the line, in the sand, because they have plenty of fudge room. They don't think there is anything that can be proved, and next time they won't have to say NO, because no one will ask.
Three and a half years is a month from now.

A key point for sure. Issa more than likely has a good paper trail, and confirmation by multiple sources, of key events along with the associated communications that reveals who was in the decision loop.
Continuing the thought:
If both houses agree to file contempt charges against Holder, Holder will give Issa the documents, knowing that there is nothing of value in them and that giving them an excessive volume at one time will keep them busy and be costly, time consuming, and delay any actions.
And the MSM is implicated in F&F as well. Remember all the stories about how 90% of the Mexican cartel weapons came from US gun shops?
So the MSM has an interest in seeing that this particular story dies. Some inconvenient questions might be asked about why they were so eager to do the WH/DOJ bidding.
Yep, it’s totally gone. We may be just one or two elections from a dictatorship.

Monica Crowley was on Hannity. Put out the possibility the documents will show the program was not botched but done by design to attack the constitution and gun rights.

Monica must be an FR Lurker. She has just proposed a theory that has been accepted here at FR for at least the last 12 months if not longer.
I believe such a document would be entitled to executive privilege in this case.
Only an impeachment trial could demand it perhaps.
The odd thing about this is that the DOJ refused to even respond with a “privilege log’ stating what documents they believed privileged. That shows hardcore coverup- a ‘privilege log’ is SOP in these disputes.
Perhaps early knowledge by DOJ that Jaime Zapata was killed by a F & F weapon, or even worse, that some of the weapons went to gangs intending to ambush US agents?
I knew then, that this was what this scum-ball was up to. Subverting the Constitution.
I think things are going to start unraveling, very quickly for the Smartest Guy Ever. Going to love every indignity he suffers. POS fraud and his fat arsed “fit” international style icon...tossed to the curb as the trash they are. Hopefully Barry will have a nice bunk next to Rezko and Mooch will be turned down for the Jenny Craig gig because she can't stop shoving wagyu beef and martoonis into that gaping hole.
I bet that whatever’s left of the documents there is by now an 18 and a half minute gap in them.
