Obama is perhaps the most divisive President in modern U.S. history. The country is in severe economic crisis -- history books will someday call this the Obama Great Depression. Yet our President doesnt see fit to deal with the economy in general. He doesnt make big announcements to save Americans in general. He doesnt have a plan to create jobs for all Americans. Because for Obama it isn't about America...or the economy...or jobs. It's all about cold, hard, heartless politics.
Obama sees politics as divided by race. Everything he does is about division. Obama divides rich vs. poor (with his Buffett bill and proposed massive tax hikes on the rich), black vs. white (with his Trayvon comments), gay vs. straight (with his gay marriage announcement), women vs. men (with his demand that women receive free contraception from private insurers). And Obamas newest minority of the month announcement was Fridays policy aimed at illegal immigrants, particularly young Latinos.
Undocumented young immigrants will no longer face deportation under Obama. This cynical ploy comes only days before both Obama and Romney will be addressing one of the most important and high profile Latino organizations in the country -- the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials conference in Orlando.
To Obama this isnt about saving the U.S. economy or restoring Americas place as the greatest nation in the world. Its about pure cynical politics. Its about doing anything, saying anything, offering any bribe in order to be re-elected. He desperately needs the next four years to finish what he started -- the destruction of capitalism, the demonization of the wealthy, the capitulation of the private sector.
But two can play at this game. In the interest of full disclosure, I am the Chairman of the Libertarian National Campaign Committee. This isn't an endorsement. I am making a recommendation as a political pundit, analyst, and strategist only. With that revelation out of the way, here is my unsolicited advice to Mr. Romney for how you put the election away this week. If Presidential politics is a chess game, then its time to checkmate Obama. And the perfect place to do that is in Orlando at the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials conference.
Obama believes he has checked Romney with Latino voters with his latest announcement. He will walk on the stage in Orlando to a thunderous heros welcome. He will discuss how Latino youth brought illegally to this country, through no fault of their own, will no longer have to lie awake at night fearing deportation to a strange country they no longer recognize. And he we will receive a standing ovation.
Mitt Romney must walk onto that same stage and upstage Obama. This is the place and time for the announcement of the year. Mitt Romney coolly steps up to the microphone and says, Its time for a Latino to join a Presidential ticket. Its time for the fastest growing group in America to have a seat at the table of power. To have a voice in the White House. Today right here right now Im going to change the game forever. Today you get your seat at the table. Today we change American politics forever. Ladies and gentleman, allow me to introduce my Vice Presidential running mate United States Senator Marco Rubio." Marco walks out to embrace Mitt Romney while the crowd stands, screams, and cheers! Tears stream down cheeks.
CHECKMATE.
Obamas announcement is instantly forgotten. It is an afterthought. The news media changes the headlines for tomorrows papers. Its no longer about Obamas love affair with the Latino community. Its no longer about adulation for Obamas new immigration policy. The headlines tonight on the evening news tomorrow in the newspapers for weeks on the Internet are about Romney picking the first Latino Vice Presidential running mate in history.
Obama is out of the news. Obama has been upstaged in front of one of his most important groups of supporters. No matter what Obama says that day or any other day to Latinos Marco Rubio is the elephant in the room of U.S. politics.
Obama is fast losing his grip on the Presidency and he knows it. Obamas lead is slipping with Latinos, blacks, Jews, women -- as the Obama economy worsens and the jobs picture darkens, every group in this country is losing faith in Obama. His announcement about immigration last week was out of desperation just to hold onto Latino votes. Obama is running scared. He is no longer fighting for new voters. He's desperately trying to hold onto his most loyal voters. When you can't even count on your home turf as an advantage, the game is slipping away.
Here are a few bonus points that come with Rubio's selection as V.P. Romney is white bread with mayonnaise. He needs youth, razzle dazzle, energy, charisma, and enthusiasm. He needs color. Rubio adds all of that to the ticket. He changes the dynamic of the entire Presidential race. He shakes things up. He throws Obama a curve that he may never recover from. Although my prediction is that days later Obama would counter by dumping Biden and adding Hillary Clinton to the ticket. Its his only move, after he is put in a corner and forced to answer Romneys devastating chess move.
Romney has never been a favorite of the crucial Tea Party. The Tea Party just saved Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker. The Tea Party just defeated Indiana Senator Richard Lugar. The Tea Party is the energy of the GOP. Take the Tea Party out of the equation and Romney becomes Gerald Ford, Bob Dole, George H.W. Bush, and John McCain wrapped into one. Rubio changes all that. Rubio is a Tea Party favorite. He energizes the Tea Party. Rubio brings Tea Party voters to the polls in droves.
Finally Rubio locks down Florida. No scenario on earth allows the GOP to win the election without Florida. Rubio is the piece of the puzzle that hands Floridas electoral votes to Romney. Having Rubio on the ticket also adds a minimum 5% to 10% more Latino votes nationwide -- a boon in crucial states with big Latino populations like Nevada, Colorado, and New Mexico.
Obama made his chess move on Friday. Here is Romneys chance to counter and end the game. CHECKMATE.
LOL.
I agree with you.
Romney’s temperature doesn’t rise visibly but he is strong and steadfast in his passion for reviving the economy.
As for Sarah Palin, my love for her has faded. She is now just a crumbling pressed flower in my old album.
Why the loyalty? She strung us along on the presidency and took all the wind out of the contest when she ... way too late ... declined to run.
She’s doing the same thing with her endorsement. People are waiting breathlessly to see who Sarah will endorse. She will endorse Romney in the end after holding her fans hostage for months hoping she will do something else.
—Unfortunately you just listed all of the reasons why Mittins is likely to pick Rubio.—
And that is because for Romney too this is “...all about cold, hard, heartless politics.”
What a choice we have this November. Fortunately, I don’t expect Obama to finish his term, but I hope that happens BEFORE the election.
This article is dead on. Romney needs to announce NOW......TODAY.... that he will name Marco Rubio as his VP choice and get Rubio out on the campaign trial immediately. I know the Convention has to affirm his nomination but that is a formality.
America needs some R&R..... Romney & Rubio. And, please, no s**t from the “Rubio is not eligible” people; I’m not in the mood for it today.
Bob McDonnell, Rob Portman, Terry Branstad, or John Kasich all might help the ticket more than Rubio. Rubio is Cuban--non-Cuban Hispanics may not be any more likely to vote Republican becasue he is on the ticket than they would otherwise.
All politicians pander to somebody. Some of them even pander to those of us who are Pro-life, and ANTI-illegal immigration, same-sex marriage, higher taxes, bigger government.................. It’s the nature of the beast.
So Romney is supposed to pander to the Latino vote because Obama just tried to buy them off?
Isn’t one of the biggest complaints we have with the GOP is their inability lead? Their almost insane belief that the Dems must lead and they will follow behind, barely putting on any brakes?
Rubio is a good guy and much more conservative than he is given credit for on here and I do believe he would make a good VP. Announcing his place on the ticket right now will be twisted as a failed attempt at one-upmanship on behalf of Romney and used by the media to claim racism at every single turn.
Bad idea this guy has.
The only drawback would be that he would no longer be in the House of Representatives.
_______________
I know. However....could he have MORE of an impact as VP?
Politics is pandering. But it doesn’t have to be made so obvious as trying to recoup after your opponent has pulled something out of his hat. That’s just sour grapes, and will be seen as such.
heh!
With ABO, we are allowing fear, anger, resentment, and desire for vengeance to totally erase that principle.
I love it.. and I very much like Rubio...contrary to what some believe above, I do not see him as a RINO and I like him for his politics, and also contrary to some above, this is very much a game and we have to play to win.
>>It’s nice to dream about Sarah Palin bursting out of a giant cake at the convention
What’s she wearing?
Sometimes, my FRiends, it is much better to have people curious and waiting for a response. At some point, the crowd will silence, and heads will turn with interest toward the speaker, and THAT is the time a wise leader makes an announcement.
.
OMG....... Picking Rubio as VP would cast in concrete the Romney lose.
Rubio is not qualified for the office of VP, he is not a natural born citizen. Do not try to qualify him using online sources. all on line sources have been abridged with malicious intent to subvert the constitution and the law. Seek out printed sources published prior to 2007 for research. You will find that Rubio is clearly not qualified.
It is a game because the media sets the table. They deliver the menu to the American people. The GOP will always have the least desirable table in the room. The waiters will not fawn over you at the GOP table. You will struggle to get their attention.
This WILL get their attention. And let me say this..., the GOP MUST get ahead of this issue. It is a REAL issue and you can not claim it is only playing the game the DNC has been for years. The Latino population is EVER growing and is the single fastest expanding voting bloc in the US. Without them you have NO future. I know many here just say ship them back all south of the border. That is not going to happen. Outside a revolutionary war. SOme of you will call on this as well.
There is one task Romney must perform that is critical for a win. In fact, if it is all he does, it guarantees a win. I can sum it up in two words: Show up.
The only way Romney will win is if the week before the election while playing golf Obama is hit in the head by an errant ball and dies right there.
Why does it even have to be explained that Romney is the designated looser and was carefully picked and then maneuvered into that position as the Republican nominee?
no s**t from the Rubio is not eligible people; Im not in the mood for it today.
Tough! Rubio isn’t eligible, nor am I fully convinced Romney is qualified. Not that it makes a difference, Obama is the looser that will win in November.
That is if the convention doesn’t throw out Romney and pick “anyone” else.
The LIAR and trasher of conservative Newt is a POS. Nothing good comes out of evil. If you are into baby killing, perverted same sex marriage and socialism - he's your man and there isn't anything 'American' about that.
Liberal romney is rotten to the core like his brother, Barry. You simply prefer the one dressed in a different suit but both are godless men, one a muslim one a cult leader - with either one it's one nation under evil.
