It was not the taxpayers who damaged the gun but some government thug. . . . . .

Only partially right, the taxpayers, the citizens of DC elected the Mayor who hired the police chief who hired the cop and did nothing about the delay of 2 years to give the guns back. The tax payers of DC need to pay higher taxes because of the mistakes of their employees. Perhaps then they might hire a better mayor, police chief, etc.

Disagree completely! When we elect people we elect them to do a job and do it properly. We expect them to take an oath to do that job and support the constitution.

Unless you can prove the people of DC deliberately elected an official who would work against the constitution and other local laws the responsibility resides exclusively with the government scum who did this.

If we continue to allow anyone to hide behind someone or some government entity these situations will continue forever. Taxpayers did not take or deface his property but some government slug sure did. Fine the slug then fire them.
