Marion Le Pen becomes youngest French MP in modern history
The Telegraph UK ^ | June 17, 2012 | Henry Samuel

Marion Maréchal-Le Pen, Jean Marie Le Pen's 22-year old granddaughter has become France's youngest MP in modern political history, clinching one of two seats for the far-Right National Front – its first in a quarter of a century.

Miss Maréchal-Le Pen, a law undergraduate, came top in her constituency in the southeastern Vaucluse department wtih 49.09 per cent of the vote after a rival Socialist refused to bow out to her mainstream Right rival.

Her grandfather, who founded the anti-immigrant, anti-EU party and turns 84 this week, was by her side last night to toast her victory. His party won 35 seats in 1986 only to lose them all after proportional representation was scrapped. It had only one other since, in 1997, but the result was cancelled shortly afterwards.

"I am happy to the spokeswoman for this French youth that tomorrow will be spearhead new hope in the shape of the National Front," she said from the Provençal town of Carpentras. "6.4 million French voters have already joined us (in presidential elections) and it's just the beginning."

MLP may have lost, but the new movement she built by legitimizing the FN, won 2-3 seats. Including that of bébé Le Pen, Marion Marechal-Le Pen, age 22, who won in Carpentras.

They represent at least 16% of the electorate in France, and whether we like it or not, they are here to stay.

Marine Le Pen, Mr Le Pen’s daughter and FN leader, lost a bitterly close battle in the constituency of Hénin Beaumont in the northern Pas de Calais. Madame Le Pen lost by just 114 votes to a Socialist, and called for a recount.

What does ‘far right’ mean in France? They’re going to raise taxes but not as much as the others?

"Far right" in France is approx. 2-3 steps to the left of Mitt Romney.

Based on how much the sociaists hate Le Pen Sr. I think there is more to it than that. .

The far right National Front has more in common with National Socialism, ie Fascism/Nazism, that what we conservatives understand as right or far right.

They believe just as much in tax and spend and Statusm as the Socialists and extreme far Left.

I’ve gone to the FN’s own website, and the policies there seem to be quite Fascist or Corporatist in their nature.

That just about covers the Le Penists.

But it is even worse than that, do not be bewitched by the pretty blonde Le Pen girls spouting faux Populist-Nationalistic rhetoric. Lightly scratch them and you find cemented Antisemitism.

What does ‘far right’ mean in France?

It means that the post-national left disapproves.

Don't get me wrong. LePen's party is a bunch of anti-American, anti-semitic, socialists, and I disapprove of them myself. But they are despised by Le Monde because they openly advocate the promotion of the French nation, the French culture, and the French (exclusive of Muslims and those, like former President Sarkozy, of Eastern European decent) people.

She means something a lot more racist than almost any rock ribbed Americanist would, which is to insist that the melting pot be exactly that, stop these illegale end runs and the hyping of hyphenated allegiances and such.

She is very telegenic, and thus there could be a problem. Fascism is a very bad thing whether the Fascists declare themselves on the left or right.
