A woman was killed by two smoke bombs flying at 150mph being used for special effects in a new TV show about military vehicles. The foot-long bombs hit Terri Flanell, 51, as the flew through the air like rockets at 150mph at a Colorado rifle range Thursday.

Smoke bomb registraion, background checks and 10 day waiting periods would have prevented this tragedy.
This is the sort of thing that happens in a culture of death.
Somehow, racism was involved. White people hate Obama because of the color of his skin.
Sounds like a quality control problem. Back when this stuff came from Taiwan rather than China, wasn't it better quality?
No it doesn’t look like anyone was playing chicken with their lives and the smoke bombs. The bombs, which were supposed to just smoke, exploded instead. Product malfunction. Even if she did snuggle with Larry the Cable Guy it was not a case of hold my beer and watch this.
in other news 500 people died driving cars today
“...The second flew into her neck and out her navel, killing her instantly...”
That’d do it.
I am not suggesting that. I am saying that accidents like this happen when dangerous equipment is rolled out for entertainment purposes. I am saying that a culture with an unbalanced and gratuitous interest in the technology of force projection and death — in short, death porn — is a culture of death.
That's not news, it's a statistic.
I’m not sure how they know it killed her “instantly”, but it is gruesome and considering the alternatives, it was probably lucky in a perverse way. BTW, who clocked the bombs going 150 mph?
Isn’t this getting a little liberal-like when talking about videos about war? Smoke is also used for all manner of things including stage magic. It looked to be rather harmless until the FX malfunctioned.
I am amazed the no one has been seriously injured on any of the “exploding target gun shops”... have seen more than one episode where the shooters had to dodge shrapnel /debris.
make that
“exploding target gun shows”
(American Guns, Sons of Guns etc)
I hope, for her sake, that it was quick and final. They were supposed to be smoke bombs, not rockets, right? How would anyone know what speed they’d travel at? Has to be a (Chi-Comm) guess.
Maybe the rocket and smokebomb assembly lines got confused. Rockets also usually have pointy tops. This would have had a blunt shape. 150 mph might actually be too low an estimate for the speed of the smoke bomb, or piece of it, that penetrated the victim (and most bizarrely).
If only the smoke bombs would have been microstamped.
Seriously, it is very sad for the woman and her family. Who expects or can prepare for something like this? Unless you’re somehow in the line of fire and nobody knows you’re there.
The glib and not so funny remarks on this thread border on vulgar - this woman was killed by accident and her husband is now a widower. Grow up.
Oh take your wet blanket and go home.
No sh!t. (The closing frame for her anyway.)
