I think the “inside the beltway” mentality has a lot to do with it. They all want to get along in the community, and standing on principle won’t get you invited to a lot of parties. But we can’t discount the idea, also, that there is an assumption that “black democrat politicians are entitled/expected to be corrupt” is part of the deal as well.

Too bad the desire to get along seems to be only a Republican mindset. From what I observe the Democrats have no problem punching any Republican in the face.
