Gov. Scott Walker (R-Wis.) disagreed Sunday with Mitt Romney's conclusion that the failed recall election in Wisconsin was evidence that American voters want fewer public workers such as teachers and firemen.
I think it's slightly different I think in our case what they wanted was people willing to take on the tough issues not only here but across the country, Walker told CBS's Face the Nation. I know in my state our reforms allowed us to protect firefighters, police officers and teachers. That's not what I think of when I think of big government.

...and firemen and teachers are certainly not a federal issue in spite of the obviously unconstitutional Dept. of Education.
One more than is necessary is big government.
I'm tired of bigger and more intrusive government being characterized (and legitimized) as "teachers and firemen".
Whenever you try to cut one of their programs, they claim you’re trying to cut police and teachers. And if you manage to get a budget reduction, or if reality forces a budget reduction, they cut police and teachers and hang on to their programs, the ones we didn’t want from the beginning.
Conservatives understand the need for firemen, police, and teachers. Leftists use them as hostages to protect their other programs. They use them to change the conversation when you try to cut one of their precious programs. And leftists won’t hesitate to throw them under the bus to protect those programs as we’ve already seen in city after city.
Walker respects teacher, firefighters etc..
It’s their GREEDY UNIONS which he despises.
“Big Government” is my local Township being unable to repair damage and reopen bridges from Tropical Storm Lee last September becasue of State Department of Environmental Protection PLUS Army Corps of Engineers issues.
duh...Firemen, policemen, teachers, sanitation workers, etc. are not a federal responsibility. Nor, for that matter, are they a state responsibility. They are a local funding responsibility.
In obomo’s world, there will be US taxpayer funds larded on every state, county and city to pay the salaries of every state, county and city worker.
All to ensure more votes for the big money Dim/fascist government machine, of course.
I guess that should be ‘insure’....yes?
What Romney was clumsily trying to say is that without a strong private, wealth-creating sector, teachers, cops, firemen, etc. can’t be hired. Romney should stick to a script. Bob
the over hyped article peddling the usual gop is splitting BS is is 4 days old ?
why post it ?
BS, everyone outside military on the government payroll is part big bloated corrupt government.
There are now more unionized government employees than in the private sector and we're being economically gang raped by these people.
Government at all levels are choking the private sector off.
The GOP splitting aspect meant nothing to me when I posted the article. I thought it important to refute the idea that Scott Walker is an enemy of government employees. I should have posted it sooner but I’m lazy.
So what? It's all government and their are economically gang raping the private sector. The local cities, counties, states, are nothing but government fiefdoms, filled with tens of hundreds of thousands of bloated government employees, many of which belong to corrupt unionized government mobs.
The private sector now finds themselves working *for* these so-called "Public servants".
Sorry to see Walker didn’t take into account the full comprehension of what Romney actually said.
I’m not a big Romney fan but he was right. Walker, after what has been thrown at him, should understand that.
makes sense
The left frames the debate and gullible republicans swallow their nonsense without thinking. Republicans are against “health care.” They admit it themselves. What they actually oppose is government controlled health care. Romney fell into the “firefighters, police and school teacher” gambit. Conservatives do not oppose these groups. What conservatives oppose is GSA partygoers like Jeff Neely (I know Im bad, but as Deb and I often say, why not enjoy it while we have it and while we can. Aint gonna last forever.) We oppose laying off firefighters because of budget cuts while spending $850,000 on a water sculpture as the city of Ann Arbor did.
Absolutely true. Firefighters, teachers, cops, civilian DOD, are all living high off the hog.
I’d rather have the sculpture. The union pensions will cost more in the long run.
If Walker is correct hes quite delusional..
The Unions WILL OWN Wisconsin, or the people will..
Walker just may be a RINO in a hard place..
If so the Unions will win... they know what’s at stake...
Probably Walker does not.. I was hoping he was a stand up man..
He may not have the balls to fight the Unions..
Because the Unions are balls out in Wisconsin..
Being soft on the Unions he will loose..
