Americans say Bush still more to blame than Obama for economy

More than two-thirds of Americans—including half of Republicans—still blame former President George W. Bush for the country's economic ills, according to a new Gallup poll released on Thursday, hours before President Barack Obama was to deliver a high-stakes speech defending his handling of the weak economy.

What one might call the blame gap has narrowed considerably: When Gallup first asked Americans in July 2009 whom they blamed for the poor economy, 80 percent laid a great deal or a moderate amount of blame on Bush, and only 32 percent blamed Obama. The current numbers show 68 percent of the public blames the former president while 52 percent say Obama deserves the blame. (The numbers total more than 100 percent because the question was not "which one do you blame more," but how much blame each president deserves individually.)

The Democratic president has crisscrossed the country in recent months pleading for patience from voters still struggling in the anemic recovery and grappling with stubbornly high unemployment above 8 percent.

So, the people running this “poll” started with a premise, and then went out collecting “poll” “data” which validated that premise. No real surprise here.

Bogus poll.

What would the answer be if the question was posed as such:

‘Who do you blame more for the slow recovery?’

Which, let’s face it, matters more, i.e. the upswing of the economy, rather than a static snapshot of the current state of affairs.

Nice graph! Simple, to the point and even maroons can read it.

Could it be, that what Obama has been doing, is exactly the WRONG course to follow in trying to correct the course of the economy?

Maybe the economy was a little shaky in 2008. But what has been offered so far, does not even remotely address the problems (rising unemployment, falling tax revenues, runaway spending, collapsed foreign policy, and an incomprehensible energy policy) that dog our daily lives today.

Darned right the Romney campaign bus should be circling the venue where Obama is giving a speech, blowing the horn.

This poll is BOGUS! In the headline it says Americans. I found no indication that pollsters verified that “responders” were actually American.

Also, it's just ADULTS. Not registered voters, not likely voters, just ADULTS.

“Survey Methods
Results for this Gallup poll are based on telephone interviews conducted June 7-10, 2012, with a random sample of 1,004 ADULTS, aged 18 and older, LIVING IN all 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia.”

For results based on the total sample of NATIONAL ADULTS, one can say with 95% confidence that the maximum margin of sampling error is ±4 percentage points.

Interviews are conducted with RESPONDENTS on landline telephones and cellular phones, with interviews conducted in SPANISH for RESPONDENTS who are primarily Spanish-speaking.

The Media is lying to you, they are deceiving you. VERIFY EVERYTHING!!!

"The current numbers show 68 percent of the public blames the former president while 52 percent say Obama deserves the blame."

Is Bush running in 2012? I missed that. If more than half of all voters blame Obama, who is running, that shouldn't be awfully comforting to the White House. (Or is his reelection effort being run by a bunch of stoners recruited from his HS "Choom Gang"? They might not care.)

Repeat a lie endlessly and it becomes the truth. The Left knows it well. It’s not the first time.

I blame Bush as well as the GOP but don’t think that Obama or the democrats have a clue on how to fix it nor do I think they want to fix it.

You might want to take into account that the media, along with Dodd/Frank and the DEMOCRAT-CONTROLLED CONGRESS sabotaged Bush’s presidency to set the stage for the election of MR. “CHANGE”. They did the same thing to Nixon and would’ve gotten Reagan too but they actually liked him too much.

I remember giving up on W as far as economics were concerned back in 2001. Not only was he bad at it, but he seemed to have no interest in it either.

If W had made sound economic policy instead of focusing on government growth and compassionate conservatism back when the GOP controlled Congress, then it wouldn't have happened. And I don't think the Jackasses coerced W into making the following statement to CNN back in 2008:

"I've abandoned free-market principles to save the free-market system"
