Well “pulling the plug” to me means the person is artificial life support. Me and my wife have made it clear we don’t intend to be kept alive by life support unless it is just temporary due to an accident. Extended life support - no way. These kind of questions have to be dealt with by the family on a case by case basis. “Pulling the plug” sometimes has to be done.

That’s what living wills are for - it should be an individual’s decision, or the immediate family’s in the event there is no living will (but even then, hopefully the family is loving, knows that person’s feelings on the subject and will honor them either way).

It should NOT be decided by government death panels, Godless progressives or those brainwashed by them.

There was something very un-natural about my father-in-law’s last two years. He was very sick, leukemia, arthritis, heart running at 30% capacity; nonetheless, the medical system spent probably $1,000,000 on carte blanche testing and treatment. And the entire time my f-in-l was in pain and felt like hell during chemo.

I know, it was his call to receive all these treatments but it is not the “quality” of life I want when I get to that point.

Everyone should be allowed to decide for themselves whether they want to continue living.

The more relevant question of this article is whether anyone has the right to make virtual slaves of strangers to prolong their own life. Can you demand healthcare that you have no way of paying for, knowing that it will lower the quality of life for hundreds of other people ? Isn’t that what is really happening when the government must tax hundreds of other people thousands of dollars each to pay for $500,000 of longterm nursing care for a comatose octogenarian ?

Why take the risk, that those evil relatives will keep you alive just to drain their savings, go now while you have the means to determine your end.

The right to die with dignity cr@p passed in Oregon big time, amazingly only 35 people have requested the suicide kit, and not all of them have used it. Wonder why?

It was never about a right to die, it was always about a right for the state to kill you. Soon if you are on life support, it won't matter what your wishes are, is that really what the human race has come to?

I had three stents put in not long ago and was harassed big time by an old nurse to sign a DNR. Do you have an idea how stupid that would be?

My wife and I have “living wills.” No “heroic measures.” No long-term life support.

It’s not just about “pulling the plug”. It’s about denying some segments of the population medical care.

I agree! I think as adults we should be allowed to make decisions when it comes to “if” I’m (or family member) critically ill. I have stipulated my wishes to family and my doctor. I want to die with dignity not kept alive cause of someone else’s ideals. I won’t allow either side make this decision for me.

There was a great article in the Prevention magazine back in April with regards to dying with dignity called “Safe Passage.” It sounds better than average nursing homes.
