In Case You Don't Like Romney...
Columnist Andrew McCarthy gives us what probably is the most important question regarding the upcoming presidential election
If Romney wins the nomination, as seems very likely, I will enthusiastically support his candidacy. For my friends who may have hesitation on that score, Id just ask you to keep four things in mind:
1.. Justice Scalia just turned 78
2.. Justice Kennedy will turn 78 later this year
3.. Justice Breyer will be 76 in August
4.. Justice Ginsburg turned 81 about a week ago and has had cancer twice.
Whoever we elect as president in November is almost certainly going to choose at least one and maybe more new members of the Supreme Court in addition to hundreds of other life-tenured federal judges, all of whom will be making momentous decisions about our lives for decades to come.
If you dont think it matters whether the guy making those calls is Mitt Romney or Barack Obama, I think youre smokin something funky .
So for anybody who is thinking of not voting because your favorite didnt get nominated, or writing in a candidate who can't win ... just imagine this possibility:
'SUPREME COURT JUSTICE ERIC HOLDER'
Did that get your attention!
"I can fool them nationally, too.
RomneyCARE and our judges will be ... FOREVER."
The difference is he can be manipulated to be reelected, unlike Obama. That puts the responsibility on us. Too much for some to handle but better than zero chance with O. It worked with the Harriet Meyers nomination.
We conservatives lost the primary. We need to get over it. The why we lost is meaningless. The question is; do we build on our Wisconsin win, or do we squander it in petty internecine crybaby bickering?
Every general election is either the more-conservative candidate, or the more-liberal. So it is this year.
Do you want the more-liberal candidate, or the more-conservative candidate? Those are the only two choices, and your actions will help elect one of them.
All the current anti-Romney stuff only does one thing; help reelect Obama.
That is reality. The rest is crying over split milk. Period.
MB you are making great assumptions that Romney will appoint conservative or even “moderate” judges, he did not while governor, so why would he when president?
Most are trolls who flock to post such as this.
I would have to do some research on who romney appointed while Gov and how those appointees have ruled since they were appointed.
But even knowing he appointed questionable choices as Gov in Mass would not convince me he would be the same as or worse than 0dumbo
Knowing you have to choose one of the 2 to make your vote county which would you choose?
Scalia and Kennedy won’t retire with a blatant socialist in office. There is every reason to believe that Joe Biden, who will be 74 in 2016, intends to run for the presidency at that time.
Ronald Reagan ran his final campaign as a 74/5 year old.
JP Stevens served on the court until he was 90 years old, a republican appointee who waited to retire until an ultra-liberal came on the scene.
No one expects Ginsberg to retire on a conservative president anyway, but she won’t have to.
Both Romney and Obama are liberals.
So, Romney’s record of appointing liberals to the judiciary in massachusetts means we should worry about getting another John Paul Stevens by another liberal Republican.
I'm voting Straight Party Ticket!
It's a free country, do as you like.
Romney's no Conservative, but he's also no Radical Marxist!!

--Thomas Jefferson
which would you rather have another wise latina or another roberts?
Puh-leeze. How about another O'Conner? Another Souter? Where's your evidence that Mitt would nominate a conservative? Please provide sources that support your assertions.
Sure. Duh-bya nominated Roberts. He also wanted to give us Shamnesty and opened our financial system to Mexican illegal aliens and even wanted to give the illegal aliens US Social Security benefits for working in the US illegally. (Even wanted to give US SS benefits to the illegal alien's family back home in Mexico, even if they'd never stepped foot into the USA)
Can you promise that Mitt won't further sell US citizens down the road. If so, the first thing I'll ask is for you to back up your promises with facts.
If you can't promise, then you shouldn't be pushing us to vote for him --for any reason.
Those are the choices.
No, I am making the assumption he will appoint better justices than an unfteered Obama.
That is an easy bet.
You have one choice; Obama or Romney.
Who?
But Harriet Miers never made it to the court due to the hue & cry from conservatives. We stopped a bad appointment, & can stop another one. At least with Romney & a conservative senate, we’d be able to force a better candidate. Hopefully Heritage Fdn has a good list of legal minds who believe in Original Intent that we can work from.
So now Republicans are going to tell us that the Supreme Court is a wonderful branch of government that must be respected at all cost.
Even though the Supreme Court has taken away prayer, murdered 60 million unborn, and legalized sodomy.
Sorry, thats not going to get me to vote for Mitt.
