Lance Armstrong faces fresh doping charges from USADA (Could strip 7 Tour-de-France titles)
Washington Post ^

The U.S. Anti-Doping Agency brought formal doping charges against former cyclist Lance Armstrong in an action that could cost him his seven Tour de France titles, according to a letter sent to Armstrong and several others Tuesday.

As a result of the formal charges, Armstrong has been immediately banned from competition in triathlons, a sport he took up after his retirement from cycling in 2011.

In the 15-page charging letter obtained by The Post, USADA made previously unpublicized allegations against Armstrong, alleging it collected blood samples from Armstrong in 2009 and 2010 that were “fully consistent with blood manipulation including EPO use and/or blood transfusions.” Armstrong has never tested positive.

In February, the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Los Angeles ended a nearly two-year investigation into doping allegations involving Armstrong without bringing criminal charges. Armstrong’s former teammates Floyd Landis and Tyler Hamilton cooperated with federal agents in that investigation and publicly accused Armstrong of doping.

According to the article, the USADA does want Lance Armstrong stripped from all of his awards.

The letter specifically alleges that “multiple riders with firsthand knowledge” will testify that Armstrong used EPO, blood transfusions, testosterone and masking agents, and that he distributed and administered drugs to other cyclists from 1998 to 2005. The letter alleges that numerous witnesses will testify that Armstrong also used human growth hormone before 1996.

Additionally, the same letter includes the past #1 TdF Team Manager, Johan Bruyneel, now running Team Radio Shack-Nissan. He may end up being unable to participate in this year's Tour.

That’s gratitude, after he shilled for an unsupervised tax grab from tobacco users. I am sure if he had won, this would go away.

Did you forget that Lance was a World Champion? And after cancer surgery and treatment he came back 10 Kilos lighter, which is a huge advantage in the Mountains?

Do you have evidence that Lance, Roger or Tiger cheated?

seriously...Rodger is guilty as hell...even the lying-assed congress is trying him for perjury. Lance has been accused by at least one sane, american former teammate, but with the widespread doping/juicing going on in cycling, even if Lance is guilty I don't think it is a big deal.

My earlier post said I could argue Tiger's case either way - but the case against him is strictly circumstantial - achilles tendon problems, chronic knee problems - almost unheard of in golf. He beefed up - unusually for a golfer - and dominated the sport for years - now he has shrunk back down some. He was seeing a doctor - Anthony Galea - who was busted recently for bringing HGH into the country from Canada. His dominant years coincide with the height of the steriod era. That said, I'm not convinced Tiger was juicing - but his is a curious case.

How do they explain his physically larger heart? He literally has a bigger than average blood movement because of this larger heart. (30% larger?)

Is this constant attack a french thing?

If they had HARD evidence where is it? What is the chain of custody of these new new new new new blood samples?

This makes sense, I did not know this about Armstrong. It is believeable that he has had a phenomenal racing career because that is just the way he is. Sometimes things like this just happen.

It was discovered during his autopsy that the great race horse Secretariat had a heart that was almost twice the size of a normal horse's heart. I will never forget my Dad's face when we watched the Belmont Stakes in 1973 when Secretariat won the race by 31 lengths. He was absolutely stunned, almost in awe and I remember he said, "God was riding that horse, we will never see that again." Dad was right.

This makes sense, I did not know this about Armstrong. It is believeable that he has had a phenomenal racing career because along with great tenacity and training, that is just the way he is. Sometimes things like this just happen.

I believe that it was discovered during his autopsy that the great race horse Secretariat had a heart that was almost twice the size of a normal horse's heart. I have a wonderful memory of my Dad's face as we watched the Belmont Stakes in 1973 when Secretariat won the race by 31 lengths. He was absolutely stunned, in awe, and I remember he said very quietly, "God was riding that horse, we will never see that again." God gave Secretariat a big heart. Dad was right, we have never seen that again.

That is one of the articles that I recall reading about him. Thanks for digging that up. Exactly why I said he was a genetic freak.

Lance’s attorneys formally replied to the charges today. Lance tweeted the link. It’s long but extremely thorough (as you would expect) and totally blows the USADA out of the water IMO.
