MYFOXNY.COM - The board hand-picked by Mayor Michael Bloomberg that must approve his ban of selling large sugar-filled drinks at restaurants might be looking at other targets.
The New York City Board of Health showed support for limiting sizes of sugary drinks at a Tuesday meeting in Queens. They agreed to start the process to formalize the large-drink ban by agreeing to start a six-week public comment period.
At the meeting, some of the members of board said they should be considering other limits on high-calorie foods.
One member, Bruce Vladeck, thinks limiting the sizes for movie theater popcorn should be considered.
"The popcorn isn't a whole lot better than the soda," Vladeck said.
Another board member thinks milk drinks should fall under the size limits.
"There are certainly milkshakes and milk-coffee beverages that have monstrous amounts of calories," said board member Dr. Joel Forman.
Mayor Bloomberg says the drink rules are an attempt to fight obesity in the city. It would limit food service establishments in the city from serving drinks bigger than 16 ounces but would allow refills.
The New York City Restaurant Association is fighting the proposal and is considering legal action of it goes into effect.
New York City voters oppose 51 - 46 percent Mayor Michael Bloomberg's proposed ban on the sale of over-sized sugary soft drinks, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released Wednesday.

Look at these eyes and tell me he's not psychotic.
Welcome to NannY State.
His type will keep encroaching on liberty until the public stops them.
Really. It comes down to that.
How the crap is this guy even considered a REPUBLICAN???? He is worse than many liberal Democrats.
Get this man a straight jacket. Seriously.
If I were King/Mayor of New York, these are the foods I would like to ban:
Cheese (except on pizza)
Mayonnaise
Brussel Sprouts
Anything Alfredo
He's not a RINO (Republican In Name Only).
He's not even a DIABLO (Democrat In All But Label Only)
He's a CRAPO (Controlling, Regulating Anti-freedom Psychotic Oppressor).
What about diet cola drinkers? No sugar in that!
Seriously.
Dude's fixed everything else about New York so now he has to worry about the size of your mustard packets at the 7-11.
I think the ultimate definition of Masochism must be
“opening up a public comment period to New Yorkers”.
Remember controlling the food supply is the first step to into communist hell. He wasn’t happy banning food donations, he wasn’t happy banning large drinks...it is clear he won’t be happy until you eat nothing but the grass from central park.
But, what is truly frightening...is a lot of this is spreading like a fever across the country.
He’s not a Republican anymore.

Many people share popcorn and cokes at movie theatres, so this will cost them more money if thay have to buy smaller sizes.
It's the NYC residents who vote for politicians like Bloomberg -- and his generally far more liberal opponents -- that are truly insane. I've worked in NYC, but I could never live there!
‘Independent’ in the model of Bernie Sanders, it appears.
On its face, it makes perfect sense. Bloomberg was never a Republican in any true sense of the word. When he first ran for office in 2001, he decided to do so as a Republican because the Democratic primary was already crowded with well-known candidates. The Republican nomination was his for the taking, and he took it. Then, in the general election he used his vast personal wealth and his pitch to bring a businessman's sensibility to the job to overcome the city's strong Democratic leanings. Now that he has been elected to two terms, Bloomberg has no need to remain in a party that he disagrees with on any number of issues.
So basically he's always been a Democrat but just changed the labels. I figured as much as I don't see a distinction beteen Mayor Koch and Bloomberg or Mario Cuomo or his son.
If the law allows refills it has nullified itself. Besides, as my brother pointed out, you order one drink with extra ice and another with no ice and you have the same thing.
As for Bloomy’s political affiliation, he was a Democrat until he decided he wanted to succeed Guiliani. To do that he figured he needed to be a Republican.
Yes he’s nuts. He thinks he can regulate guns sales at gun shows in Ohio for crying out loud.
Yes they will. This ism almost like another hidden tax when you think about it. It's a shame considering NY is one of the highest taxed places in the US.
