The only reason he gets a pass is that he’s (partially) black. If he were white, the tar and feathers would have come out long ago. Chris Matthews ... “do you really think people would vote against the first black president for a second term?” ... makes ‘ya sick!

If he were white, conservatives would be just as opposed and more vocal. His black ancestry has allowed his supporters to attribute principled opposition to vile racism. This shuts down discussion and slanders the person opposed to his policies. Yet, it's all a con game. They know we didn't support Clinton and his socialistic policies for health care, for example. They know we don't agree with bigger government approaches. Yet, this McCarthyite slander works for them to quiet many people. Instead of saying we're communists to shut us up they say we're racists. That's their tolerance. That's their counter argument. That's their bludgeon to end diversity of ideas.
