It may come as a surprise to some of her fans, but Carrie Underwood has announced her support for gay marriage.
The devoutly Christian "Jesus, Take the Wheel" country singer spoke out to The Independent on why she believes marriage should be legal for all.
"As a married person myself, I don't know what it's like to be told I can't marry somebody I love, and want to marry," Underwood, 29, explained. "I can't imagine how that must feel. I definitely think we should all have the right to love, and love publicly, the people that we want to love."
The American Idol winner was raised in a Baptist church, but now attends a non-denominational church with her hockey player husband, Mike Fisher.
"Our church is gay friendly," she said. "Above all, God wanted us to love others. It's not about setting rules, or [saying] 'everyone has to be like me'. No. We're all different. That's what makes us special. We have to love each other and get on with each other. It's not up to me to judge anybody."
And the Christian star from Oklahoma doesn't agree with "people who use the Bible for hate."
"That's not how I would want myself as a Christian to be represented."

Oh, they may not raise a ruckus about it, but a lot of country music fans are going to drop her like a hot potato over this. I hope she enjoyed her stardom, because she's headed toward second-tier status now. *****************************
Agreed.

If Free Republic does not stand for Free Conservative Thought I guess I am wasting my time.*********************************
Not exactly. Free Republic is a conservative site, and that is precisely why you are wasting your time pushing the homosexual agenda.

While I agree that starting with spiritual leadership is very important, I think every believer should feel the same burden to accurately convey the gospel message. There is probably a very large percentage of mainstream, protestant, evangelical church leadership who have had an experience or steps of action they are relying on for assurance of salvation rather than true regeneration. They are in the same boat as much of the rest of Christendom.

We got another one; just signed up too. Apparently, not supporting gay marriage puts us on the same level as racists.

Zapp Brannigan, you hit my hot button today with that offensive photo comparing bans on homosexual “marriage” to bans on race mixing. I'm one of those Freepers out there who is married to a person who is also strongly conservative but not white.
Jim, I have never asked that someone be zotted before, but I believe this post warrants at least suspension of posting privileges. If Zapp Brannigan were advocating a ban on “race mixing” I'd call for him to be banned based on his violation of the rule on “NO racism ... in posts.”
There's a huge difference between interracial marriage and homosexual marriage. God forbids men from having unnatural relations with other men, and women from having unnatural relations with other women, and that prohibition in God's law was reflected (correctly) in many though not all civil statutes of the colonies, which generally continued into statehood.
Don't like that? Take it up with the Founding Fathers.
