Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush today said that both Ronald Reagan and his father, George H.W. Bush, would have a hard time getting nominated by the more conservative voters in todays Republican Party.
Ronald Reagan would have, based on his record of finding accommodation, finding some degree of common ground, as would my dad, they would have a hard time if you define the Republican party, and I dont, as having an orthodoxy that doesnt allow for disagreement, doesnt allow for finding some common ground, Bush said, according to Buzzfeed, which reported Bushs giving the comments at the headquarters of Bloomberg LP in New York City.
Bush, a much-discussed contender to be Mitt Romneys running mate, said he sees the ultra-conservative and partisan standards of todays GOP as disturbing, but called this dysfunction temporary.
Its just a different environment left and right, Bush said.
During his dads time and Ronald Reagans time, Bush said, they got a lot of stuff done with a lot of bipartisan support, according to the report, adding that Reagan would be criticized for doing the things that he did.

During his dads time and Ronald Reagans time, Bush said, they got a lot of stuff done with a lot of bipartisan support, according to the report, adding that Reagan would be criticized for doing the things that he did.Yeah - but that was when the Republicans hadnt had control of the House for thirty years, and there were people you could work with who were Democrats.
Even then, the Democrats made deals with Reagan and then reneged on their side of the deal.Today bipartisanship is less possible because now the only good Democrat is a former Democrat.
and, yes, Bush 41 can't hold a candle to Reagan, who, by the way, would be elected AGAIN in a heartbeat!
noticed a birthday tribute to Bush 41 on Fox this morning, which I believe is less of a tribute to Bush and more of a vehicle to make Romney palatable..........which is what Jeb is doing with his Reagan to Dad comparison.

Hey Jeb, have you always been such a liberal squish? Just go away and shut the frick up!
“Hey, Jeb, dont you dare put your father in the same category as Reagan. Your father couldnt polish Reagans shoes.”
Right ON! Let me repeat that.... oh I just did.
This narcissistic dirtbag is really wondering out loud whether we would vote for him. You have to admire this guy’s “courage” - dumping on the GOP in the liberal media. Maybe some network will give him a long-term gig as its pet RINO commentator.
Bush probably threatened Ronald Reagan (prior to election)to gain the vp job. After President Reagan was elected, Bush was probably on the level of a knat. A distraction and nothing more. Of course there was the assassination attempt. Was there a conspiracy?

I have no idea what a knat is, but I do know that you’ve used more than your fair share of tinfoil in putting this post together.
Went out and purchased an extra roll just for the purpose of this post. Doing my part ... for tinfoil makers and the economy.
Obama's "Yes We Can" was a false promise because it came from a liar. The same words out of Reagan's mouth would have meant so much more.
The compromises being demanded now are nothing like any in the past. Ronald Reagan wouldn’t want anything to do with them.
So it's not so much that Reagan wouldn't have prevailed in today's political environment. Rather, the current environment wouldn't prevail if Reagan were around.
He was a solid conservative and everyone knew it. Once he was elected he could compromise on some matters because conservatives knew he was solid and trusted him.
GHWB, by contrast, didn't win in his own day -- or at least he didn't win on his own. It took Reagan's reputation and coattails to put him in the White House.
I'm not sure times have changed as much as Jeb makes out. Parties out of power are always stricter about ideology and more severe on infractions.
When Republicans were in control they let Jeb's brother have his own way -- or he let congressional Republicans have their own way. There wasn't much ideological rigor there.
And Mitt Romney, who has liabilities that even GHWB didn't have got the nomination, whatever the grumbling, so something in Jeb's view is off (Doesn't mean he deserves to be abused and insulted though).
The TEA Party has made some mistakes. Lenin put it this way “mistakes were made”.
How self-serving of his governorship.
TS
Someone needs to tell Jeb that these comments ARE NOT HELPFUL!
The dude ran for office as a Republican ~ both for the Governorship and for the Presidency.
Hey Jeb, one thing I really liked about your brother is that HE WAS NOT A WHINER.
Thanks for clarifying that. But, if he had been in the days of the internet, I imagine we would have been bombarded with photos of him “back in the day” with all sorts of Dem politicos.
Interesting though how with all the Rep. contenders we had for this round there was always something coming up on each of them as soon as they became a bit more popular.
But crickets when it comes to Obama.
Nope, Jeb Bush, you are wrong
In fact, I will let President Reagan say it, as he did during the 1980 election campaign:
“(George HW) Bush is part of the Eastern Liberal Establishment”
Because Rubio stinks on immigration. He’s another amnesty Republican.
What is Jeb talking about? Ever since Reagan, every single GOP Presidential nominee has been the consensus/moderate candidate of all the candidates running. Bushes, Dole, McCain, and now Romney. Romney was governor of a Democrat-dominated state!
