Revealed: Obama campaign launches 'unprecedented' data mining operation (leaving Romney struggling)
The London Daily Mail ^ | June 10, 2012 | Staff

Four years ago Barack Obama’s presidential campaign set an impressive new standard for using social media and technology to harness votes.

But this time round Obama’s campaign have raised the bar even higher and, according to experts, this advantage could make all the difference to securing a second term in office.

According to a report by Politico today, Obama’s campaign know ‘what you read and where you shop, what kind of work you do and who you count as friends. They also know who your mother voted for in the last election.’

Carried out by 150 techies this extensive data mining could give Obama the crucial edge, in what is believed to be a tight race to the White House this November.

Through Facebook, Twitter and other online sources, the campaign is working tirelessly to create a formidable data base collecting specific profiles of potential voters.

Depending on factors, such as age, interests and socio-economic levels, the campaign is able to tailor messages to these potential voters.

'They are way ahead of Romney micro-targeting and it’s a level of precision we haven’t seen before,' Darrell M. West, a leading scholar on technology innovation at the Brookings Institution, told Politico.

Unsurprisingly, the Obama campaign believes the effort and money being poured into gaining a technological advantage will pay off....

You got that right-- I snarled "FUBO!" yesterday every time one of those things showed up on my monitor.

Exactly. Not EVERYONE wants to be inundated with the POS.

I meant to say 7,200 to 7,800 (thousands) of data points. This was the number I heard in about 2008. Quite probably more at today’s point.

I’m certain this has nothing to do with why I’ve been unemployed for soooo long.

RE: "Ping to #78".
Rather disturbing post obviously. As well as the new Freeper's response. Hopefully his suspicion will not bear out to be the case for his sake as well as millions of others in that long hard battle to find meaningful employment.
I for one had no clue as to the data mining actions mentioned. Though I am not in the least surprised as to what Politico reported.

All the data-mining in the world cannot guarantee who someone selects in a voting booth.
Correct.

Not saying this is a typical rate, but I’ve applied to 6 different companies so far TODAY.

I have stopped applying for jobs last week. My fear is everytime I “apply” I’m further poisoning any future attempts at applying for jobs. I have been doing research on these ATS / TMS software packages for a while now, I can’t find any information on whether or not they query sources outside of the businesses hosting these tools.

Ouch Semi-Conductor industry.... they pretty much exported all those jobs out of the U.S. Not sure whether you can blame HB-1 or other Visa’s on that, but I know I can safely say H1-B is making it much harder for me to find a job in the IT industry.

Thanks; I’m beginning to feel optimistic about November. I couldn’t understand why people thought Obama would be hard to beat, so I began to think the problems I was seeing were specific to my area (NYC metro area). Since I keep seeing bad news from other places (especially the Dem states), I think it is a national issue. The best-off places are safely in the (R) column anyway...

Breaking: Romney/RNC outraises Obama/DNC by nearly $17 million in May
Hotair ^ | 06/07/2012 | Ed Morrissey

Posted on Thursday, June 07, 2012 9:24:04 AM by SeekAndFind

First, the good news for the Obama campaign ... they improved on a relatively poor showing in April’s fundraising numbers. Earlier today, Team O and the DNC announced that they had jointly raised $60 million in May, up from the previous month’s $43.6 million:

President Barack Obama and the Democratic Party have raised a combined $60 million in May for his re-election effort.

The totals helped the president exceed his fundraising haul in April, when his campaign and his party raised $43.6 million. That was slightly more than his presumed challenger in the November election, Mitt Romney, and the Republican Party, which raised about $40 million during the month.

So far, though, there isn’t any indication of their cash on hand. Obama has gone on a fundraising tear, which racks up the costs and burns through the donations. The cost of raising all that cash, advertising, and organizing will be seen in the burn rate.

And now the bad news for Team O. According to a news release from the Mitt Romney campaign, the Romney/RNC partnership outraised Obama by nearly $17 million in its first full month of operation:

Today, Romney for President, Romney Victory, and the Republican National Committee announced fundraising totals of over $76.8 million in May. The campaign and RNC have $107 million cash on hand.

Announcing the numbers, Romney Victory National Finance Chairman Spencer Zwick said, “We are encouraged by the financial support from a broad range of voters. To them, whether they are Republican, Democrat, Independent, a first time political donor, or a former Obama donor, this is not just a campaign; it’s an opportunity for the country. It is clear that people aren’t willing to buy into ‘hope & change’ again. Voters are making an investment because they believe that it will benefit the country.”

“Our strong fundraising is a sign that Americans are tired of President Obama’s broken promises and want a change of direction in the White House,” said Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus. “We will continue the hard work of raising the resources to defeat President Obama so that we can elect Mitt Romney and Republicans up and down the ballot to get our country on the right track again.”

FAST FACTS About Romney For President, Romney Victory, and RNC Fundraising:
•Over $76.8 Million Raised In May
•93% Of All Donations Received In May Were $250 Or Less
•$12 Million Raised By Donations Under $250 In May
•297,442 Donations Received Under $250 In May
•$107 Million Cash On Hand
•Contributions Received From All 50 States And Washington, D.C.

They already have $107 million cash on hand? That’s pretty impressive from a combined $116.8 million in fundraising since Romney shed his primary competition for good. That seems to indicate a very efficient fundraising operation, one that will present a big challenge to Team Obama. At the very least, it’s clear that Romney will compete directly with Obama on campaign funding, even apart from the super-PACs that will be engaging in this election.

I was replaced by Non-H1B employees, taking over and running a data center, PHYSICALLY LOCATED in the U.S.

Unawares, I spent about 6-8 Months training these guys across the seas in India on how to “run” our data center here.

Right... Brilliant idea, run a data center physically located in the U.S. remotely from India...... That’s fricken brilliant.... /sarc. You DO NOT RUN a data center REMOTELY from somewhere around the world.... you just don’t.
