Con Law 101 Exam
The US constitution mentions “citizens” in a number of places but only once specifies a requirement that an officeholder be a “natural born citizen”.
Please address each question:
1) Where is that requirement found?
2) What reference book was considered the definitive text on international law at the time our Constitution was written?
3) Who said regarding that reference book “It came to us in good season, when the circumstances of a rising State make it necessary to frequently consult the Law of Nations.” ?
4) Assume that a child was born in a Kansas City, Kansas hospital, with news cameras and reporters present and luckily was immediately issued a birth certificate for the child of a woman born in Kansas of parents born in the US and of a father born in Kenya of Kenyan parents, then a British colony who was never naturalized as a US citizen and by virtue of his birthplace held dual citizenship as a Kenyan and British citizen. Is their child a natural born citizen under the US Constitution?
Please discuss.
Hint: The answer to question #2 is in question #3.
Extra credit: How might a pretender to the presidency stretch out questions regarding his eligibility as a “natural born citizen” by dribbling out “facts” concerning his birth certificate long enough to be elected president, get through his first term and be re-elected while systematically destroying the country he swore to defend?
Good Luck! ;-)
