The Argentine foreign ministry on Monday declared "illegal and clandestine" the activities of Desire Petroleum, Falkland Oil and Gas, Rockhopper Exploration, Borders and Southern Petroleum, and Argos Resources on the grounds that they are drilling in Argentine waters.
President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner said the companies were operating "in a sovereign area of the Argentine nation and as such fall within its specified laws and rules". The companies "are not authorised by the Argentine government under law 17.319 on hydrocarbons", she added.
According to the Argentine foreign ministry, her declaration opened the way for the "immediate launch" of criminal proceedings.
However, the UK Government said the moves were the "latest attempts to damage the economic livelihoods" of the islands and said it would work with any company potentially affected to help them deal with the practical implications.
"Hydrocarbon exploration in the Falklands is a legitimate commercial venture," a Foreign Office spokeswoman said.

This will end in another war...
The UK needs to take this commie out.
Argentina better stick to soccer.
Would this crap come to consideration under the LOST Treaty?
You know which way that decision would go. All the more reason to oppose LOST.
Rule Britannia.
I wanted to say ‘Roll Tide’ but that’s war of another sort.
Argentines are like Nigerian scam artists with spanish accents. How’d that last dust up with the UK work out for you?

Argentines are either Nazi War Criminal-harboring Fascist bastards or Commies, there is no in-between.
The military of Argentina is in much worse shape right now than back in ‘82 while the Brits have been honing their skills in Afghanistan and Iraq.
I was just thinking that - missiles and carriers.
But, then again, the Brits have started acting like the French since the last go round.
There is very little downside to Argentina from posturing, so why not? The downside only comes if they actually push it all the way to war, and then lose.
I don’t know what the current status of the Argentine armed forces is, but the Brits are much weaker than they were the last time they went to war with Argentina. Argentina has the advantage of proximity, and may feel they have the upper hand.
If Argentina thinks (rightly or wrongly) that they can beat Britain militarily, then this may end in war (or a British retreat prior to war).
If Argentina does NOT think they can beat Great Britain militarily, they may still be able to get what they want through a failure of will on the British part.
Regardless, one thing is clear: The U.S. will not lift a finger to help Great Britain. Obama may even side with Argentina.
and also losing their ability to project force...
The British Navy of today in in worse shape since then as well.
He'll probably launch an attack on the Maldives, then wonder why everyone seems confused.
Yeah, the British Navy isn’t what they used to be. But c’mon, this is the Argentinian Military we’re talking about.
Well she screwed up the economy so she needs a distraction. I doubt she actually wants a war.
LOL - yeah.
“The military of Argentina is in much worse shape right now than back in 82 while the Brits have been honing their skills in Afghanistan and Iraq.”
I am wondering if the Argentines have another General Belgrano to offer to the fishes? In 1982 they lost half of their Navy, one ship!
“According to the Argentine foreign ministry, her declaration opened the way for the “immediate launch” of criminal proceedings.”
Stupid wench better hope the Brits don’t decide for and Immediate launch” of an attack by one of their nuclear subs.
One of which just might be in the area, considering the past treachery of the Argies on the Falklands issue.
She’d better shut up before the next British general election.
Just what Cameron needs to look less like a public school fag.
I wonder how President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner would respond if a Britisk plane dropped a bomb on the Presidential Palace. The commie biotch is spoiling for it.
