Faith scholars who backed Obama in 2008 see weakening Democratic interest in religious voters

In 2008, Barack Obama took aim at the "pew gap," the overwhelming Republican edge among voters who regularly attend church.

The Democratic presidential nominee came nowhere near closing it, but he didn't have to. He just needed an extra percentage point or two among traditional GOP constituents, and he got it.

According to exit polls, the effort paid off. Obama made gains over the 2004 nominee, Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry, with voters who attend religious services more than once a week, 43 percent to 35 percent. Obama also won 26 percent of the evangelical vote, compared with 21 percent for Kerry.

The Democratic National Committee is promising a repeat performance in 2012. But some religious leaders and scholars who backed Obama in 2008 are skeptical. They say the Democrats have, through neglect and lack of focus, squandered the substantial gains they made with religious moderates and worry it will hurt Obama in a tight race against Republican Mitt Romney.

In the wake of the 2004 election, the Democrat Party made a clear announced plan to close the “God gap” (their term).

They did not actually change their positions, they just tried to cast their arguments in religious terms like “my brother’s keeper”. I cannot be MANDATED to tithe to their Marxist interpretation of “charity” through confiscatory taxes.

Black pastors tried to convince their follower that Obama did not support infanticide or same sex marriage. They are being thrown under the bus this election.

Nancy Pelosi’s “culture of corruption” she ridiculed the GOP about in 2006 came down to two stories about gay Republicans in sex scandals. But they regained control of Congress with the assistance of their cohorts in the media (the press and DNC knew more earlier than the GOP and noted that they would save the scandal for use later in the election cycle). The truth came out in the subsequent congressional investigation.

This shouldn’t be a big mystery. People of faith and “values” voters, see that Obama does not share their values.

Some things which Obama says are not connecting with people of faith.

For example, he has said that he came to Christianity, because he was inspired by such Christian principles as being our brother’s keeper and our sister’s keeper.

For him to cite a completely misunderstood and misinterpreted story from The Bible as his inspiration for Christianity shows Christians just how little Obama understands about Christian theology, or The Bible itself. Cain was mockingly asking God if he was his brother’s keeper, when God asked Cain where Abel was. The story was NOT making reference to how we should be our brother’s keeper, and have government social programs.

It’s the same situation with Obama citing the Golden Rule as his inspiration for supporting homosexual marriage. He completely misunderstands the teachings behind the Golden Rule.

What a filthy, nasty word in the Liberal world.

Those of us who are (to various degrees - “Religious”, seem some how to tolerate (to varying degrees) other beliefs.

Islam is one possible exception but even that is tolerated to a greater degree as long as they do not threaten us.

The largest group of faith based Obama voters are also those whose skin color would look like Treyvon.... It cancels out completely when it comes to non-UNION Whites. Obama still gets the Union membership christians, but this doesn't help him.

How about a statistic that shows the political affilitation of those arrested. Kinda like putting the D. after Obama's name....
