The Marlin Model 60 is very accurate. The micro-groove barrel that Marlin uses is one of the best bargains around and I have always found them to be far more accurate than the standard 10-22 offered by Ruger. I own a few of each and have already bought my kids new ones that are still in the boxes.
I won’t badmouth the 10-22 though. That is a fun rifle to shoot and it’s accurate enough at short range.

I also like the tube magazine. It allows more flexibility in prone shots.

The Marlin 795 with detachable magazine is the Marlin 60 cut to handle the mags. It is a great shooter, and like you, I have purchased and set aside two for my grand-kids. I also purchased several of the 10 round mags in stainless steel. Perhaps someday ProMag will issue a twenty five rounder, but I'm not holding my breath. The Mossberg folks came out with a hi cap mag for their 702 Plinkster, but it doesn't function reliably. I doubt the ‘assault weapon’ version of the Plinkster functions any better. The action of the 702 Plinkster was a copy amalgam of the 1022 and the Marlin 60.
